TC Construction stresses the importance of safety
on its job sites, and has achieved a standout safety
record as a result of this commitment.
Safety is Top Priority
TC Construction has established an award-
winning accident-prevention program and
consistently surpasses the highest safety
standards in the construction industry, it
says. In 2007, the company received the
Associated General Contractors Safety
Excellence Award in the Heavy Division
of 701,000 to 1 million man-hours cate-
gory.
“The Associated General Contractors
Annual Construction Safety Excellence
Awards have been an ongoing and evolv-
ing effort by the AGC of America to recog-
nize companies who have developed and
implemented excellent safety and loss pre-
vention programs achieved through man-
agement commitment, employee train-
ing and program innovation,” the com-
pany says.
Its safety program includes formal safe-
ty training, inspections and a reporting
system that allows management to
identify, evaluate, correct and improve
program effectiveness, the company says.
“Under the supervision of our full-time
safety director, our safety team mentors,
trains and monitors all employees and

subcontractors,” Cameron says.
The safety team staff includes OSHA
outreach instructors, as well as equip-
ment and fleet instructors. Safety aware-
ness is a core component of a successful
project. “Job sites are closely monitored
and project-specific safety is a topic of
our weekly tailgate safety meetings,” he
says. “We have implemented proven
methods that stress the importance of
our safety culture.”
All new employees, regardless of their
experience, are required to attend new-hire
safety training, he adds. “New employees
are also required to wear yellow hard hats,
whereas the seasoned employees wear
white hard hats,” he explains.
“This policy reinforces the need to pay
special attention to these employees until
they are fully trained in the safe perform-
ance of their tasks.” Additional training is
provided for competent person, trench and
excavation, confined space, CPR and First
Aid, OSHA 10-hour, and storm water pollu-
tion prevention program.
“Our constantly evolving accident pre-
vention program reflects our commit-
ment to the health and safety of our
employees,” he says. “Through training,
implementation of best practices and
feedback from our work force and com-
munity, TC Construction strives to provide
the safest work environment possible.”
Continuing to Evolve
In addition to an increasingly diversified
offering of services, in 2007 the company
began transitioning to a paperless office
environment. “We are processing interof-
fice paperwork electronically and consoli-
dating project files, making everything
much more efficient as well as being envi-
ronmentally conscious,” Coker explains.
“We have reduced our document storage
requirements from 6,000 square feet to
20 square feet.”
As a third-generation contractor, Terry
Cameron is turning over the reins to a
fourth generation of the Cameron family,
which includes his son Austin Cameron
and partners Coker and Vice President of
Field Operations Derek Franken. Today,
TC Construction continues the tradition
of building on a solid foundation of hard
work, perseverance and continuous inno-
vation, it says. ■
