What we are learning


*In Reading-This weeks reading selections are Tomas Rivera which is a biographical study, and At Home Around the World, a nonfiction about different types of homes. *In Writing-The children should be writing at least 5 sentences on a topic using conventions and neat handwriting. The children are getting quite good at elaborating on one topic. *In Math-. We are still working on Addition Strategies to 12. We have learned the strategies of counting on, using a number line, and using doubles facts to figure out a problem. Now we will return to making 10 to add. *In Social Studies-We will enjoy learning about some winter holiday traditions. *In Science-We continue to study and track our waste. We are also involved in taking care of the gardens and the class compost. Our Calendar *Tues.,Dec. 11-Field Trip to the Hippodrome State Theater to see A Christmas Carol. The children may dress up in fancy clothes for this event. *Tues., Dec. 18-Class Holiday Party. We will have a luncheon, crafts, and will help fill each others stockings. Please return the form that went home that states how you can help by Dec. 10. Stocking stuffers should be here by Dec. 14. *Thurs., Dec. 20-Wed., Jan. 2-No School! Winter Holidays.
Thanks so much! A big thank you goes out to our wonderful parents and grandparents who have provided us with special projects this week. Chelseas Grandma, Ms. Briget gave us a little lesson on the Big Five African animals. She had us make paintings of some African animal tracks. Edens Grandma, Ms. Anne, taught us how to make paper shapes out of recycled paper from the classroom as part of our zero waste challenge. Thank you to the parents who helped, too! We are so blessed to have such involved families this year!

Help Needed * Please send in 20 small items for your child to put into each of their classmates stocking at our Christmas Party. Suggestions: candy canes, rubber bugs, hair bows for girls, dice, bubbles, pencilsuse your imagination. Packs of these things can be purchased at the Dollar Tree. You should not spend more than $5 0r $6. *Please send in a gallon milk jug for a project that we are doing. *Dont forget your snack day, please.
