TASK 9 FORMAL PROPOSAL (EXAMPLE BY STUDENT KAV) Title of magazine

I have chosen to name my magazine Flare. Its short, catchy and memorable. Its very feminine and willappeal to my target audience, and its abstract to reflect the pop genre of music. It also has the connotations of being quite fresh and current, which will fit in with my magazine because it will include the latest music, artists, fashions and gossip.

Choice of genre

I have chosen pop as my genre, as it is my favorite genre of music, so I am familiar with the genre and have background knowledge of both the genre and artists. Because of this, I felt that I could create a good pop magazine, because I know what the audience wants. I am also a fan of pop music magazines and have just started buying Billboard magazine.

My Target audience

My target audience will be females between the ages of 15 -18. I chose this audience because I feel this age group are very interested in pop music and the artists involved, but there isnt a magazine aimed at them, so they are missing out. The research I have done shows that they would be interested in buying a magazine like the one I am going to create. All ethnicities will be included in my target audience because Pop has mass appeal so most ethnicities listen to Pop therefore can read my magazine.

Initial ideas for Front Cover

For my front cover, I am planning to use a medium close up shot of a female artist, who is dressed very fashionably to reflect the interests of the target audience. I have also decided to color the title of the magazine raspberry pink, and use it as the house style color throughout the magazine, because this color is bright and eye catching, but is still sophisticated and feminine. The sell lines will relate to the artist on the cover, style, gossip and the latest pop music news.

Initial ideas for My Contents page

For my contents page, there will be a large F in the left hand corner in a grey box. Beneath on the left, will be the content of the magazine, laid out in columns which will be categorized under different subheadings. The text will be black and a contrasting color to the background to make it stand out but still look sophisticated. There will be a larger image of my cover star, followed by 2 smaller images which will show other features which are in the magazine. I will include an editors letter which will be located on the right, adjacent to the column contents.

Initial ideas for my article

For the double page spread, I will do an interview with the cover stars. It will be based on their rise to fame, what theyre currently doing in their career (new single, albums etc), their interests outside of music and their personal lives. The right hand page will have a large image of the star on, with text underneath. This way readers are able to find out about the artists by being giving a visual representation.

Initial ideas for photographs

The front cover photography, I have decided to use a MCU of the artist. This is because I want the magazine to make the reader feel like they know the star, and having an MCU will help the reader to feel like this. For the contents, I will use a mid-shot of the artist, an MCU of another artist and a long shot of another feature relevant to a different feature. This variety of shot types will give the reader

different visual representations of the features and make the page look visually appealing and professional. I will photograph a mixture of ethnicities and genders to represents pops mass audience and artists involved in the industry. Lastly for the double page spread, I want to use a really strong, striking photo which will dominate the right hand page. This will be a mid shot of the artist, to maintain the intimate feel, and will catch the readers eye as they are flicking through the magazine. Furthermore I have used these shot types, as they most commonly found within pop magazines. Ill use a plain background of pale/pastel pink for the cover. The background for my contents page will be white or grey.
