Polycom HDX systems, by default, output in component format except the HDX 6000, which outputs in HDMI. Refer to the chart below to see other types of monitors the HDX will connect to. When powering on the unit for the first time, if not connected via component into a monitor there may be no picture visible. To correct this, the HDX video output must be changed. To change the video output without being able to see the screen, do the following: Verify the Eagle Eye Camera is plugged in to the Camera 1 input Power the HDX on Aim the remote control AT THE CAMERA. Press and hold the Display button, located in the top left corner of the remote control for approximately five seconds. A basic installation does not include provisioning setup. Select the server address and delete any IP information from here. Choose the arrow in the bottom right corner to proceed. The system will then try to register provisioning. Choose Cancel at this screen. After country the HDX will ask you to name it. This is the name that will appear when the system calls other systems.

The next screen will ask you to choose the country of residence. Choose either United States or Canada

After you have named the system the HDX will ask you to enter LAN properties. By default the system uses DHCP to try to find an IP address. If the HDX finds no address or the address is not the one you want the HDX to use change IP Address (Ipv4) from Obtain IP address automatically to Enter IP address manually. Enter the appropriate IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway. If the end user has provided IPv6 information for their network, enter it below. If the end users network is

not running on IPv6, leave it to Obtain IP address automatically and proceed to the next screen.

On the next page make sure Allow IP Calls is checked and the correct numbers are in place for the DNS Servers. If Allow IP Calls is not checked, you will not be able to make IP based video calls. The final page of LAN properties will allow you to Enable the PC LAN port. MOST installs have EAP/802.1X: and 802.1 p/Q disabled and the PC LAN Port Enabled:

The 802.1x is for authentication protocols while the 802.1 p/Q is for VLan and link layer properties. The next page is Security. Notice there is already a default password here, denoted by stars. It is the serial number of the HDX. All letters in this password are uppercase. Both the password and Admin ID are case sensitive.

Best practice is to highlight those stars and delete them. Do leave the Admin ID set to admin. The default will

p g g only get in your way if you try to configure or troubleshoot the system. Therefore, it is recommended to leave it blank and allow the customer to configure later. The second page of the security setup is whether or not to Require Login for System Access. Unless specifically asked to do so by the end user, leave this check mark blank.

The final page will be Registration. This is optional.

This is the final step in setup. Choosing the next arrow will cause a system reboot. Any new IP addressing will be applied and once the HDX system reboots you will be able to setup firewall, gatekeeper, home screen settings and more.

Additional Setup
Youll start at the home screen:

You may need to setup any NAT settings or gatekeeper registration required by the end user. To configure NAT settings choose the following options from the home screen: System > Admin Settings > Network > IP > Firewall

Verify fixed ports is checked and NAT Configuration is set to either Auto or Manual. Verify Address Displayed in Global Directory is set to Public. If NAT Configuration is set to Auto verify the WAN address displayed is the correct one of the system. If NAT Configuration is set to Manual, enter the correct WAN information. Also, make sure the network administrator has created a 1:1 static NAT on the firewall between the public IP address and private IP address of the Polycom unit. Traffic should be open bidirectionally for the ports listed under Fixed Ports as well as TCP port 1720. To configure Gatekeeper registration choose the following options from the home screen: System > Admin Settings > Network > IP > H.323 Settings Go to the SECOND page of the H.323 Settings Menu

Make sure Use Gatekeeper is set to Specify. In the H.323 Name field, name the system the same as you did in the initial setup. Enter the appropriate extension for extension dialing under H.323 Extension. Your network administrator may have a certain extension he or she would like you to use. Check with them first. Under Primary Gatekeeper IP Address enter the internal (LAN side) address of the gatekeeper. Press the Home key when you are finished. The basic setup of your Polycom HDX system is now complete. If you have configured the system to dial outside of the end users network, you can call the ScanSource Communications test IP at 64.126.109.100.
