District Annual Awards


and AGM of the District Scout Council

7th May 2009, 7.15pm for 7.30 pm

The District will be holding the annual Awards Presentation evening at the Emmaus Centre,
Thorley on the above date. The awards ceremony will start at 7.30pm and finish at about 8.30pm
with wine, soft drinks and cheese refreshments. The District AGM will then follow with some formal
presentations to Leaders.

The Awards
We want to bring together Leaders and some young people to celebrate the good things we have
all collectively achieved over the past year. The outline is:

 There are 12 District Awards (see nomination sheet attached);

 Other Awards – nominations are sought from all adults using a form attached;

 The award period is from January 2008 to December 2008;

 The Awards will be special trophies;

 Nominations for the Awards must be sent in by the 26th March 2009.

 The Awards will be selected by a small group selected by the District Commissioner and
District Chairman;

 Clearly not all nominations will be successful. Please do not to tell any nominee of
their recommendation. All winners of awards will be invited to attend.

What now?
Please look at the nomination criteria and put forward people that YOU or your Leadership team
feel meets the criteria and should receive recognition. A small panel will judge the nominations
and publish the results. Send your nomination to Sue Byford, District Cub Scout Leader, 38 The
Meadows, Bishop’s Stortford CM23 4HD.

District Award Category Criteria

1* Overall Group Growth* The Scout Group that has increased it’s overall membership the
most against the previous year’s census

2* Section Growth* The Section that has tried the hardest to increased it’s overall
membership the most against the previous year’s census. This
may not necessarily be the Section that has grown the most

3* New Sections* The Section (s) that have opened during the year

4 Beaver of the Year The Beaver Scout that has done their Best and carried out their
Law and Promise to help others

5 Cub of the Year The Cub Scout that has done their Best and carried out their Law
and Promise to help others

6 Scout of the Year The Scout that has done their Best and carried out their Law and
Promise to help others

7 Explorer of the Year The Explorer Scout that has done their Best and carried out their
Law and Promise to help others

8 Special Event The Section that has had the most interesting day out in the year

9 Interesting Programme The section that has had the most unusual programme
night/activity in the year

10 Leader of the Year The Leader that a nominee(s) feels has either:

(a) Done something beyond the normal call of duty for


Scouting and inspired others

(b) Helped young people enjoy a special Scouting


experience

11 Special commendation Special category for the item/person/event that you feel deserves
a special recognition.

12 * DC’s Special Award* An special award at the Discretion of the District Commissioner
