Between IQ, EQ and SQ

Written by Prof. Dr. H. Mudjia Rahardjo, M.Si Saturday, 29 May 2010 02:17

In this life we often find there are people who succeed, and some are failing. Some are smooth and straight course in the running wheel of life, some are limping along. Success and failure is a common occurrence and is always present in any society. For years, people assume that success is determined by intelligence quotient (intelligence quotient), often called IQ. This intelligence is the ability to solve problems logically and academically.Experts believe the best measure of IQ as the person's intelligence and potential for success. According to this theory, the higher one's IQ, the higher the intelligence.Conversely, people who fail in life is considered to have an IQ of less well (lower), and is unable to resolve the problems faced by the right. In the mid-1990s, scientists discovered another form of intelligence that determines one's success, the EQ (Emotional Quotient), which is an ability to empathize, compassion, and understanding of self and others' feelings, and motivation to move forward. EQ is a basic requirement for effective use of IQ. Thus, IQ is not the only intelligence that determines the success of a person, as long as was believed by many people. The findings were of course many horrendous. Therefore, academic seminars and discussions that address the new findings of the expert's vibrant place in various parts of the world, not least in Indonesia. How our outlook on things? To answer, we use a historical perspective. There is an interesting example. We all know Japan is a developed country in the world with the level of economic growth and prosperity of life in society are very high. With such a wellestablished economic stability, Japan became one of the determinants of the global economy. Product technology is spread throughout the world. Even more interesting, although 80% of the mountainous region, Japan is also a highly developed agriculture so that agricultural products be one of mainstay export. Why so? The experts made an interesting analysis. When involved in World War II (WW II) to a peak of Nagasaki and Hiroshima atomic bombed by the allies in 1945, Japan's falling apart to the point of zero. Remarkably in the not too distant Japan rise and become one of the world. The question is whether the Japanese have a higher IQ than any other nation?Experts agree that the cause is not. Because, there are many people who first advanced civilization, such as India and Egypt, but until now not considered as an advanced nation.Because, they do not work hard and like to reminisce that once they've developed with evidence of the history of his ancestors. If so what causes it? After the atom bombed to ruins, the Japanese harbored a very deep historical wounds. But a deep wound that does not constantly lamented, but rather used as a power to rise up so that it can defeat a nation that destroys them. The ability to quickly escape from destruction by not bemoan the events that have occurred and a strong desire to become the largest not intellectual intelligence (IQ), but emotional intelligence

or Emotional Quotient (EQ). Had not the atomic bombing, Japan might not rise, and as strong as it is today. Atom bomb was indeed remarkable devastating for the Japanese, but on the other side turns out to have a purpose, namely the growth of emotional intelligence. Japan dreams have now been proven. American-led West has been the determinant of the world economy is made subject to the Japanese because it has a huge economic power. In contrast to developing countries whose economies are vulnerable shaky due to political changes, Japan is not the case. Japan's economy is not affected despite a change of state leaders (Prime Minister), because it has a very strong economic foundation. Through the EQ owned, Japanese people can quickly and precisely determine the choice of development strategy, which rests on the further development of science to produce the technology. Japan knew that the future will be a lot of people rely on technology products, which today is known as knowledge-based society. Now a reality. Advances in science and technology Japan is very advanced, and technology products flooding the world market. We have a loyal consumer of Japanese technology. Japan's ability to be able to read nature, by looking at modern man needs to be dependent on technology, and ability to interact with other nations in the world are also other forms of emotional intelligence (EQ) owned. Besides Japan, Singapore can also serve as an example as a country that rose after the escape from Malaysia and became one of the advanced countries in Asia. Desire to move forward and capable of working hard is one manifestation of a strong EQ. Previously, the island of Singapore is a country that does not have anything, let alone the natural resources.Aware of its position between two large countries, Indonesia and Malaysia, Singapore leaders Lie Kuan Yew was soon taking steps how to take Singapore as a developed country in the midst of the crush of big countries. Lie Kuan Yew begin by convincing its citizens how the importance of having selfconfidence and a spirit or a high work ethic, relying on the services sector, because it has no natural resources. Lie was not easy to convince people Kuan Yew. But he never ceased to convey his belief that through hard work that is physically small Singapore will become a great nation. What happened? Through the tireless work and desperate for about 25 years, now that idea a reality. Singapore emerged as one of the developed nations not only in Asia but also in the world. High level of social welfare with one of the lowest corruption rate in the world. Selfconfidence, hard work and enthusiasm shown uncorrupt Singapore is a manifestation of emotional intelligence (EQ). What about us? I strongly agree with the opinion of the experts on that IQ is not the only determinant of the success of a person. We often see not a few people who are quite clever and intelligent academic grade point average with a peak that is suspected of having a high IQ, but failed in their choices and way of life. What are the main cause of these failures?Apparently, it was more because of the failure of emotional intelligence (EQ) is weaker than the IQ factor. For example, they are difficult to interact with others, like lying, if say hurtful, dishonest, not trustworthy, do not commit, is inconsistent in attitude, no respect for others, it is difficult to adapt to the environment, and so forth. Therefore, we often hear the phrase "This guy is smart, but unfortunately communication difficult, and so not a lot of dishonest people who give confidence".

Imagine what happens if we are in an environment where people are like that: it is difficult to interact, if promises are not kept, if it hurts to talk, like a lie, if given the task is not trustworthy, and respectful to others. Sociable, trust, respect and appreciate others, and honesty are the values contained in emotional intelligence (EQ). Consider carrying a lot of people succeed because of the emotional values like that. How good if we work in an environment where people are smart, flexible associate, honesty, commitment and mutual respect. Working atmosphere would be very pleasant to live and thus improve productivity. In a healthy environment will create good moods. The atmosphere will give birth to a healthy inner high labor productivity. Once the sequences kausalitasnya. At the end of the 20th century, scientists discovered another form of intelligence to another, ie, spiritual intelligence, abbreviated as SQ, namely the potential to put the behavior and life in a broader context and intelligence to assess that person's actions and way of life becomes more meaningful. Therefore, humans are essentially spiritual beings, ie beings who always ask about things that are fundamental. For example, why human beings are born, what is the meaning of life, if there is another life after this earthly life? and so on. Required to answer the spiritual intelligence. In addition, I think SQ is also strongly associated with one's consciousness as being the servant of God, the following duties and obligations it must fulfill. As a servant of God, man was bound by God to execute commands and avoid His prohibitions. A form of spiritual intelligence is the impetus to act pious, positive thinking towards God, and seek the wisdom behind every decision of God. When discussing this matter by chance in college, my student asked where the most basic of the three types of intelligence. I think the SQ is the most important type of intelligence, because it is the foundation to build intellectual intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ). Thus, SQ is our ultimate intelligence. Therefore, the only man who has this kind of intelligence. . Thus the picture of the role of IQ, EQ and SQ in human life. The third question is if the intelligence is so important, then how to improve it and how well the three works? Whether simultaneously or one precedes the other? If so, which one comes first?. Since I am not an expert in this field, we should leave to the experts or anyone who has a concern in this area to answer them! ____________ Malang, May 27, 2010
