Answer ALL Questions Part A(10X2=20 Marks) 1. List any two properties of reflection coefficients generated by Livison-Durbin algorithm. 2. Write down the system function H(z) for a causal IIR Wiener filter. 3. What are the advantages of lattice structure? 4. What is the significance of Toeplitz matrix in signal processing? 5. Write the advantages of Pronys recursion over Fades approximation. 6. Give an example each for upsampling and down sampling processes with relevant illustrations. 7. Define a synthesis filter bank with a neat block diagram. 8. What is meant by sub band coding? 9. What are the effects in spectrum due to decimation? 10. What do you meant by poly-phase realization? Part B(5X16=80 Marks) Answer ALL Questions 11. (a). (i). Explain in detail, the Pronys method of pole zero modeling and obtain the recursion matrices. Compare it with Pades method. (ii). Explain forward linear prediction and backward linear prediction. (10) (6)

Or (b). (i). Explain how the Wiener-Hopf equations are obtained in formulating the means square error criterion. (8)

(ii). Discuss in detail how the discrete Kalman filter can be used for estimation of nonstationary process. (8)

12. (a). Invert a Toeplitz matrix

using Levinson-Durbin algorithm. Or

(b). (i). Derive FIR Wiener-Hopf equations. (ii). How do you convert the Wiener-Hopf equations into linear prediction.

13. (a). With suitable model and assumptions establish that Wiener filter are designed based on the criterion of minimizing the mean square error. Or (b). (i). An audio signal is stored in a digital audio tape with a sampling rate of 4 KHz and it has to be copied on CD with a new sampling rate of 44KHz. Suggest and explain the method to implement this. Also draw the poly phase structure for the same. (ii). Discuss any one application of wavelet transform. 14. (a). (i). Discuss with relevant diagram, the method of sub-band coding. (10) (6) (8)

(ii). Develop an expression for the output y(n) as a function of the input x(n) for the multi-rate system given below.

Or (b). (i). What is poly phase realization? Explain. (ii). Realize the FIR transfer function using poly phase decomposition. (8)

(8) 15. (a). Explain the process of up sampling and down sampling a signal by an integer factor and derive the expressions for its spectrums. Or (b). Consider a decimator with down sampling factor 3 and a 12th order filter. After deriving necessary equations, draw the structure for the decimator with the derived poly phase filters.
