LeGaTo the very first lgbt student club in universities estabilished in metu in 96. they met in canteens to organize.

Their first aim was to introduce homosexuality to the public and have connection among lgbt students. This club spread to other universities like hacettepe. LEGATO didnt exist long time. Some students againist homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism estabilished another university club in METU called social gender and women studies (TCVKC). They were not only LGBT people but also women rights activists. They applied for being an official club but office of cultural affairs didnt give them this status. They applied again and again but every time office of cultural affairs rejected them saying that they had some missing parts and they said "Oh is there and gay in the university?". TCVKC deal with missing parts but office continued saying they had missing parts and because of that TCVKC spent a lot of time. After that period, TCVKC had discussions among the members because they had common and different aims together and they dissolved. Women rights activists and LGBT people estabilished different university clubs this time. In 2009, some activists estabilished METU LGBT Solidarity. In 2010 they applied for being an official club but office of cultural studies rejected them in a homophobic and transphobic way. They said "we dont give official status to the clubs struggle for identity, we dont need a lgbt club you can work with sociology club, you dont have room in the university". Volunteers found a room but they didnt accept again and they rejected officially. Because of homophobic speech of university, METU awarded hormoned tomato by Lambdaistanbul LGBT Association in Istanbul Pride 2011. METU LGBT Solidarity is still active and its volunteers have connections with Kaos GL and Pink Life LGBT associations, United Nations and Amnesty International. Its volunteers had presentations in Switzerland and Spain to announce LGBT rights activism in METU. They have meeting in Thursdays, movies in Wednesdays. They marched together in Metu Revoluation March and in 2011 they had organized METU Pride Parade. It was more crowded then the Ankara Pride Parade. They also participates Istanbul Pride week, Ankara Pride week, March againist transphobic hatred. This struggle started with few people but today they have tens of volunteers and they march with hundreds of people.Its getting more crowded and their connection with universal organizations getting stronger. They are againist all types of discriminations like gender, ethnic minorities, religous minorities and HIV pozitive people.
