INTRODUCTION/PURPOSE

he purpose of this Factsheet is to assist users of the Regulations who are familiar with the content and layout of the 16th Edition, to readily identify the locations of regulations that have been changed, transferred to different sections or removed from BS 7671 in the 17th Edition. Part 5 - Selection and Erection of Equipment Chapter 55 - Other Equipment Section 551 - Low Voltage Generating Sets The section contains additional regulations for the installation of sustainable energy generating equipment. Section 559 is a new section - Luminaires and Lighting Installations. The principal technical changes to the Regulations are set out in the Introduction to BS 7671:2008. The majority of the changes reflect harmonisation with International IEC 60364 and European CENELEC HD 60384 series of standards. However, there are a number of new regulations and changes to existing regulations that are specific to UK practices.

GENERAL CHANGES TO THE LAYOUT AND ADDITIONS TO THE CONTENTS OF THE REGULATIONS:
THE NUMBERING SYSTEM: Each regulation has been renumbered to match the numbering system used in IEC 60364 and CENELEC HD 60384. The renumbering of every Section or Regulation is not shown in this Factsheet. Regulations are only shown where changes have been made. The structure of the regulation numbers is similar to that in the 16th Edition. Many of the Section numbers retain the first three digits of the number. The numbers that follow relate to the sub-sections and individual regulations. The numbers in Part 7 align with the numbers of the related regulations in Parts 1 to 6.
