1. Difference between Master-Detail and Drill-Through.

BY USINS MASTER DETAILED RELATIONSHIP WE CAN NAVIGATE LINKS IN THE SAME REPORT WHERE AS BY USING DRILL-THROUGH OPTION WE CAN NAVIGATE REPORT TO REPORT LINKING You need to have a common column in the master and detail queries, you use this column in the master-detail relationship. What effectively happens is the detail query is 'filtered' based on the value in the master query. 2. Types of prompts. Textbox prompt, Value Prompt, Date, Date and time, Search and select, Generated, Tree prompt. 3. What is Tree Prompt. Tree Prompts are used in dimensional reporting and allow the user to submit a value from any displayed level within a dimension's hierarchy. 4. What is limited local. Database only specifies that all query processing is performed on the database, and none is performed and cached by the IBM Cognos report server. The query executes successfully only if all query operations can be performed by the database. Limited Local specifies that little, or possibly none, of the query processing is performed by the Cognos report server. Local processing only occurs if the database cannot handle the query. Database Only = ALL Queries are processed by the Database. If this is not possible, you get an error and your reports won't worl Limited Local = Cognos is allowed to process Queries, which can't be processed completely on the Databse, at the local Cognos Machine. This improves the flexibility, but may slow down your things. Sometimes you HAVE to use this Feature, for example when you make Models/Joins with objects from two different Data Sources. 5. What is Static Choice. In value prompt if you want to pass values which are not in DB then we use static choices and pass them. 6. Types of Variables. Boolean and string variables, Language. 7. Difference between Conditional block and Render Variable. In conditional block the object you put in the block(list, crosstab etc) can be made invisible or not depending on the variable. we assign this conditional block to render variable. While in case of render variable only the column that you want to cut off from ur report will be rendered by the variable condition. 8. What is cascade prompt. Cascading prompt uses the value from the previous prompt to filter the value in the current prompt.

For Cascading no need of two reports. If a report having two related columns (e.g. Country & States),then we can cascade these two columns by adding two value prompts. 9. How multiselect works in cascade prompt. If the child is having multi select it works normal. If parent u need multi select then u need to add reprompt then only user can select the multiple values. If u use multi select we cant use Auto submit as YES. Make the source prompt as Multiselect and then make the target prompt also multi select. Add the prompt button to the prompt page and change the Type to Reprompt. 10. What is ancestor button. In the properties pane ancestor button is uesed to select the element of the ancestor can be selected. Now go to the report page. Select anything on the page. Using ancestor button, select the whole Page object. 11. What is balanced hierarchy and un-balanced hierarchy. In a balanced hierarchy, all branches of the hierarchy descend to the same level, and each member's logical parent is the level immediately above the member. The Product dimension in the FoodMart 2000 sample database is a good example of a balanced hierarchy. Each member in the Product Name level has a parent member in the Brand Name level, which in turn has a parent member in the Product Subcategory level, and so on. Also, every branch in the hierarchy can be traced, from highest to lowest level, to a member in the Product Name level. In an unbalanced hierarchy, branches of the hierarchy descend to different levels. For example, an Organization dimension contains a member for each employee in a company. The CEO is the top member in the hierarchy, and the division managers and executive secretary are immediately beneath the CEO. The division managers have subordinate members but the executive secretary does not. The Employees dimension in the FoodMart 2000 sample database is a good example of an unbalanced hierarchy. 12. Difference between Filter and Prompt. If you want to restrict some data based on some condition. Prompt is used to give user to select or give the value for applying the filter condition. 13. Difference between Excel2000, Excel2002 (Single Sheet) and Excel2007. The report output will be displayed in the corresponding version of output. 14. What is Template in Crosstab report? 15. Master detail report: This relationship allows to merge a master query and detailed query A master detail relationship provides navigation from summary to detail with in a report we cannot navigate to another report. Drill throug report: A drill through allows you to navigate the information from summary to detail from one report to another A drill through is developed with two reports 1.parent report which contains summary data 2.child report which contains detailed data
