Job Description System/Network Engineer II


General Description We are looking for a highly motivated individual to be a key member of our Network Support Team. The position of Network Engineer II will be responsible for applying a wide range of technologies to develop functionality for new and existing business solutions. Qualified candidates must have an extensive track record in network architectures in enterprise environments. Quality, commitment and teamwork should be priority. The candidate should possess strong leadership skills, communications skills, and technical skills. Responsibilities Manage a small team of help desk administrators and system admin/engineers with different skill levels Ensure that all help desk support orders are being handled in a timely basis with quality control a top priority. Install all new hardware, systems, and software for networks. Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment and devices. Supports administration of servers and server clusters/farms Manages all system back-up and restore protocol and disaster recovery plans. Plans and supports network and computing infrastructure. Perform troubleshooting analysis of servers, workstations and associated systems. Documents network problems and resolution for future reference. Monitors system performance and implements performance tuning. Manage user accounts, permissions, email, and anti-virus, anti-spam. Requires a thorough knowledge of networking essentials. Oversee software and network security. Ensure that the proper technical documentation is produced for each project Work with various users at all levels managers, executives, team members and end users to plan and offer solutions. Work intimately with the Software Lead Developer to ensure proper procedures for managing existing applications (both custom built and commercial applications) Position Requirements Experience designing, architecting, implementing, and maintaining Windows server environments Experience in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, 2007 and 2010. Experience should include upgrades, Front End \ Back End configurations, OWA and Active Sync configuration, troubleshooting and Management. Experience in Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008 Experience in Microsoft Active Directory Services & Microsoft Clustering Services Experience in Microsoft DHCP, DNS, GPO, Print Services, IIS, and SharePoint Services Experience in Microsoft HyperV, VMware vSphere, VMware vCenter and VMware AppSpeed products. Experience in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity products such as VMware VMotion, Double Take and Acronis disk image. Experience in Symantec Backup Exec. Solid understanding of WAN technologies. Proven experience in the design, configuration, and administration of network infrastructure components, and troubleshooting and diagnosing network problems

Expert knowledge of installing, maintaining, upgrading and troubleshooting network software and hardware. Emphasis on Cisco Catalyst and HP Procurve LAN Switching technologies: Vlan Trunking, QoS, Spanning Tree. Experience integrating Windows servers with SAN and/or NAS environments. Solid understanding of the 7 layer OSI Model. Solid understanding of SAN, NAS, and Tiered storage technologies. Experience and understanding of VOIP solutions from: Cisco, Avaya, Shortel, Mitel. Expert knowledge of installing, maintaining, upgrading and troubleshooting network security appliances for the purposes of network firewalling, client VPN and Internet filtering policies. Knowledge or experience in securing networks by developing procedures to deal with viruses and security threats. Ability to train others. Personnel Requirements Easy going person diplomatic and professional Must be a good manager - with the ability to motivate team members, course correct and provide constructive feedback. Must be passionate about keeping a clean well documented network Must not be too rigid with design at the detriment of the project or the business requirement (over-engineer just for the sake of doing it) Excellent written, oral/interpersonal communication skills and influencing skills. A natural leader applying excellent project management skills and diplomacy when working with customers or team members. Also has the ability to persuade and gain buy in. Practical problem solving and strategic thinking skills. Quick learner and has good memory retention. Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. Highly self motivated, pro-active nature and a passion for over-delivering while still meeting requirements Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a timely manner and give departments an estimate of work prior to performing the work. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and able to handle constructive criticism Keen ability to detect when a project is stalling and what course of action is needed to get the project on track. Keen ability to know when something has been over-engineered or under-engineered Willing to go the extra mile, stay late to get the job done or solve a problem.
