Welcome and Hail Hail

The Madrid Emerald was founded in Finbars Irish pub in the year 2000 when a few likeminded men got together for the craic and the Celtic scores. This was, as you know, the days before streaming video and cheap flights home, so these hardy Celts had to satisfy themselves with the results on Ceefax and a few beers. The club grew from these inauspicious beginnings to being the focal point for all Celts in Madrid and Spain. Since then, the club has travelled across Europe to spread the name of Celtic and the Madrid Emerald, including memorable trips to Seville, Barcelona and Lisbon. We continue this spirit by organising as many trips to games as is possible and watching all available games in the comfort of the pub. Our spiritual home of Finbars has now sadly passed but we now have a new home in the Triskel Tavern in the Centre of Madrid where we now show every Celtic game, home and away. Like any supporters club abroad, the numbers go up and down but the spirit remains the same: it's all about Celtic. Our club welcomes supporters from any walk of life and embraces Celtic fans regardless of religion, race, sexuality or background; we are one club for all.

Celtics Unsung Hero

Name: Georgios Samaras A revelation, a blunder, a genius, a waste of space, a credit to Greek football and a joke! Only one footballer has been subjected to every name and phrase that can be created by a common or articulate mind, and there has been only one footballer that could have taken it in his stride. He is a marvel in his own right and an enigma to the majority of football fans. One things for sure, he has scored very important goals for the Hoops.

Remember When...
A great night for the club, which many did not foresee, beating one of the best teams in Europe, coming a year after Seville to show it wasn't a one-off (however, the notso-simple 2nd leg away was still to go...). Most fans awaited this game thinking the worst. Granted, we had been in the UEFA Cup final in the past year and had a very good go in the Champions League Group stages but Barcelona were the in-form team in Europe at this point and few, if any, gave us a realistic chance. Nevertheless, we were playing at home. Surprisingly, we kept together in this game despite some good attacking moves by Bara but one of the big turning points came off the pitch, when sendings off during the HT interval followed a brief bout of handbags between some players. Sadly for Rab Douglas, he was sent off from Celtic's side, even though he was apparently trying to stop the melee. In stepped David Marshall with a remarkable performance (saving a penalty). Additionally, a brilliant game by Bobo helped us get through against an ill-disciplined Bara side. As for our winner, Alan Thompson smashed home a close range goal to give Celtic the goal we all craved set up by Larsson who headed the ball down perfectly to his colleague. A night to remember for us all.........
