ACID RAIN

O2 , the simple symbol for oxygen is among one of the most essential parts for us human to live on earth. Normal air should contain nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapour and other inert gases in small amount. Development and modernization has forced us to clear green land, jungles and hills to build houses and factories and eventually leads to air pollution. The air pollution happened when there is presence of unwanted things in the air. Our beloved country also in the same boat of this global issue with other country as well. The pollutants in our country is getting worse because of the amount of pollutants in the air is increasing horrendously that is caused by the irresponsible human activity nowadays. The pollutant in the air is included sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and other harmful toxins. There are many elements that can be the sources of pollutants such as fossil fuels, tobacco smoke, factory smoke and smelting activity. The reasons for all the pollutants come from the activity necessary for survival. For instance, the open burning and deforestation fires that mostly occur in rural area and industrial region form toxins that we can breathe in such as dioxin, furans and other carcinogen. The automobile has had a huge impact on our lifestyle and environment too. These vehicles produced many carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides from the fossil fuels combustion especially the one that havent been on service for a long period. Illegal logging also contributed to the air pollution and formation of acid rain. This is because when there is an open burning plus these carbon dioxide exhaled by the human cannot be used up by the plants for photosynthesis. When there is no plant, the toxins cannot be sieve and directly react with the water, oxygen and other gases in the air and gradually forms the acid rain. There are many bad side effects of the acid rain especially for the environment. One of the implications caused by acid rain is the damage to lakes, rivers and the aquatic life in it as the acid can accrue and lower the lakes pH that it is too low to support any aquatic life. Moreover, acid deposition also gives an impact on architecture and art because it can corrode certain material. If acids land on buildings that constructed mostly with limestone, it can cause the building to disintegrate and wash away as the acid

react with the mineral in the stones. The cars and buildings paint also can erode and get rusty easily, Furthermore, acid rain also affect our healthy especially the youngster, elderly and those who have illness such as asthma. Acid rain too has increased global warming as the trees are destroyed. When the acid rain falls on trees, it can make the trees lose their leaves, ruin the barks and stunt their growth that eventually makes them vulnerable to soil erosion, disruption of soil nutrients and extreme weather such as drought and flooding that caused the loss of crops and property. Depletion of ozone layer also happened where we get less protection from UV light as the toxins had damaged our ozone layer from time to time. Less but not least, when the worlds population increasing causing the demand of energy to rise. So, the world community has to be exposed with the sequences the earth facing and start a move to prevent it getting worse. We have to start learning how to be filthy in using our energy source and take good care of the mother nature for the sake of the young generation as the Mahatma Ghandi said, we do not own the nature but we lend it from the future generation.
