She was a frequent CI during the Palestinian Protests. She called a few minutes ago to advise us Tim Hopkins is planning a protest for 1530 ours at Market and Elm the day after Obama announces a troop build up in Afghanistan. His surge protest in 2006 was the time we ended up arresting 11 when they tried to takeover the street. You should have the Intell report on you computer. MariKay Abuzuaiter Finch, RC Fwd: [chapelhillprisonbooks] PROTEST POLICE STATE CHAPEL HILL! (please forward widely) Saturday, November 19, 2011 4:40:33 PM

---------- Forwarded message ---------From: "political prisoner birthday and admin" <ppbirthday@riseup.net> Date: Nov 19, 2011 12:00 PM Subject: [chapelhillprisonbooks] PROTEST POLICE STATE CHAPEL HILL! (please forward widely) To: <chapelhillprisonbooks@lists.riseup.net> We just received information on this protest and consider it highly relevant to the work we do. We also posted it on our website at: http://prisonbooks.info/2011/11/18/protest-police-state-chapel-hill-demo-announcedfor-november-21st/ We hope to see you there, IPBC ### PROTEST POLICE STATE CHAPEL HILL! *MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21 *6 PM AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS *7 PM AT TOWN HALL Why are we protesting? *The police and mayor value profit over people.* Occupiers peacefully entered and cleaned up an unlocked building that had been abandoned by its absentee owner for over a decade. They danced and celebrated, presented plans for a free community space, shared free food, and held open meetings to discuss possibilities. In response, a paramilitary squad threatened their lives while the mayor trumpeted the need to defend private property at any cost. We demand that human need take precedence over private greed. *The police were prepared to use lethal force.* The SERT officers did not wear riot gear or carry weapons intended to disperse crowds, such as tear gas and batons, nor did they attempt to negotiate or deliver warnings. They entered carrying assault rifles and handguns with live ammunition and extra clips, prepared to kill people ? even though no one in the building had weapons of any kind, as the police admit. We demand that paramilitary police units never threaten our lives and communities again. *The intensity of the repression was based on political beliefs.* The police department's press release justified the potentially lethal force used in the raid by claiming that ?known anarchists? were involved in the occupation. They also claimed that the presence of ?literature? prompted them to attack and arrest the unarmed occupiers. When the state declares the presence of literature and the alleged political beliefs of a group of people a legitimate basis to repress and threaten to kill them, fascism has arrived. We demand an

end to state repression based on literature or political beliefs. *Sunday's raid showed the brutal reality of policing in Chapel Hill.* The assault rifles and SWAT gear didn't arrive to town brand new on Sunday. These violent tools and tactics are used all the time in Chapel Hill, mostly against poor people and communities of color. Sunday was only unique in how obvious and public the repression was, and in its targeting of a diverse group based on presumed political beliefs rather than along the familiar racist and classist lines. We demand an end to the daily violent police repression that goes on in our community. *The mayor and town council are complicit.* Despite massive public opposition and international media coverage embarrassing Chapel Hill, Mayor Kleinschmidt and nearly all town council members have lined up to support this inexcusable police action. They have praised the absurd and potentially lethal use of force against their own constituents, including reporters, legal observers, passersby, and peaceful occupiers. We protest any effort to excuse a police state, and condemn the police chief, mayor, and town council for their reprehensible conduct. *This raid connects to repression of the Occupy movement across the country.* Chapel Hill police shared strategies and coordinated with law enforcement agencies across the state and nation in an effort to crack down on the Occupy movement everywhere. As this social movement grows and begins to threaten the privileges of the 1 percent, their armed defenders are working together to prevent us from becoming powerful. They try to label us ?good? or ?bad? protestors to divide us, and when that fails they simply obliterate our occupations with brute force. We protest to defend all Occupy actions against the wealthy, the police and the politicians. **We stand united with occupations everywhere against all state repression.** **Let's show that we won't stand for a police state in Chapel Hill!** MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21 6 PM AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS 7 PM AT TOWN HALL

All Evictions Must Stop!

Join with Residents and Former Residents of J.T. Hairston Homes for an Important Community Meeting Tuesday, March 30th, 6:30 PM Faith Community Church, 417 Arlington Street
About 60 people attended the meeting held last week . Some important work was done. Residents and former residents shared their personal stories. There were strong feelings that there is an ongoing pattern of injustices, indignities and disrespect. There was also a strong view that the actions taken by Hairston Homes were retaliatory even though people were justified in standing up for their rights and respect. One family shared that they were sleeping in a car. Others were trying to get funds from day to day to live in a motel. One couple had all their furniture set out and destroyed. They have found housing, but the breadwinner has lost his job, and the family is without funds to pay their light bill and other expenses. A lawyer reported on one case and other legal work that is being done . A lot of other work was discussed. People talked about engaging the plight of the There will be updates and discussion of what needs to be done to successfully resolve this community issue at the next meeting. Your help is needed.

Hairston Homes residents on its multiple levels the individual/person front, on the social/community front, on the judicial/legal front, and on the moral/ethical front.

A Hairston Homes Support Fund has been established to support the residents while this issue is being resolved. These

She appears to find out whether the Temporary Restraining Order delaying her eviction will continue or not. Eviction proceedings could begin again if it is not upheld. When: Thursday morning, 9 A.M. Where: Guilford County Court House Room 3A Why: Residents have organized against the Westminster Property Management Company, saying that living at Hairston Homes is like living in a prison camp. There are strict visitation policies, residents are told they can't sit outside their front doors -back porches only! and soon will be required to wear picture ID cards (like people in South Africa were). The management has removed all children's recreational facilities and threatened one mother with eviction for starting a dance team for kids, claiming it was encouraging "gang activity". Shiloh Baptist Church has been repeatedly approached by residents and supporters asking them to step in to stop the evictions, remove the management company and change many of the rules. Recently tenants attended the church and on March 7, marched and picketed outside as services ended to talked to parishioners. Residents ask that supporters email or call Shiloh 336-272-1166 or email: <shilohateugene@bellsouth.net> to let them know the community opposes their treatment of tenants. The recent round of evictions involve several who signed a petition against Westminster demanding changes. The evictions have affected families who have had to split up, move in with

relatives, sleep (with children) in a van or stay in motels. Lawsuits have been filed and investigations have begun but the outcome of this struggle will be determined by the level of public support. Please help anyway you can.

Shiloh Baptist Church has been repeatedly approached by residents and supporters asking them to step in to stop the evictions, remove of the management company and to change many of the rules. Legal Aid, Human Relations, politicians and several non profit agencies have all failed to stop this treatment of residents. This was done as a handful of supporters were there to support this woman. Monday's community action will be determined and peaceful.

Friends, Please join me Monday evening, September 12, for the Greensboro Candlelight Vigil for Equality highlighting opposition to the proposed anti-gay constitutional amendment. Greensboro Candlelight Vigil for Equality September 12, 2011 7:00 pm 8 pm Guilford County Courthouse Plaza Information about the Vigil is posted here. Greensboro Vigil for Equality Please plan on arriving by 6:30-6:45. The vigil starts sharply at 7 pm. Guilford County Courthouse Plaza on Greene St (between W. Market St and W. Washington St) FREE parking is available at the Green St. Parking Deck, 211 S Greene St, Greensboro, NC Greensboros hour-long candlelight vigil will feature local speakers, including community and faith leaders, highlighting the negative impacts of North Carolinas proposed anti-gay amendmentlegislation that would ban same-sex marriage, as the state already does, and prohibit civil unions. Greensboros candlelight vigil speakers include: Chris Speer, Field Organizer, Equality NC Rabbi Fred Guttman, Temple Emanuel Addison Ore, Executive Director, Triad Health Project and Equality NC board member Martha Lang, Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology and Anthropology, Guilford College Ellen W. Gerber, Attorney at Law, and who has been in a relationship with her partner, Pearl, for 45 years. For more ways you can fight the amendment go to Equality NC Anti-LGBT Constitutional Amendment ________________________________ What would an anti-LGBT amendment do? The proposed Senate language represents the most extreme version of an anti-gay amendment. In addition to limiting marriage to opposite sex couples, as state statute already does, it would prohibit any other form of relationship recognition, such as civil union or domestic partnership. This kind of language has been used in other states to take away private benefits such as health insurance for LGBT couples, unmarried opposite-sex couples, and their children. This is a not a hypothetical issue but a very real one. These amendments have also been used to challenge other private contracts between couples. The amendment would not only write the current discriminatory marriage law into the constitution, it would actually take away rights and responsibilities that are currently available to some couples. The House version is somewhat narrower, and would prohibit recognition of marriage for same-gender couples.

Who: October 22nd Coalition's National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality, Repression & The Criminalization of a Generation. What: 2 Events: Sidewalk Picket at new Guilford County Jail construction site. Community Rally and Speak-out at Smith Homes. Cakalak Drummers, Revolutionary Poet D Noble, Food provided by Food Not Bombs! When: Friday, October 22nd. 4:30 PM at the Jail, 5:30 PM at Smith Homes Where: Jail Site is at the corner of Edgeworth and Washington Streets for 4:30 Picket Smith Homes, Rally & Speak-out at corner of Freeman Mill Rd. and E. Florida St. Why: In cities nation-wide people will be protesting the many different ways the police enforce the unequal set up people are forced to live under. In New York, the demonstration will focus on the "Stop and Frisk" program where more than 1,600 are stopped and harrassed per day. These are mostly youth. 84% are Black and Latino and 90% are let go because they were doing nothing wrong. The NYPD jokingly refers to this brutal treatment as "Round and Pound". Similar stop and frisks are common in many local communities like Smith Homes. In Greensboro, this year's October 22nd protest will also focus on the new $114 million jail under construction which will warehouse a generation that is offered little more than the "choices" of finding a scarce job, hustling, fighting and killing each other on the streets or joining the military and being trained to massacre people all over the world. "Banners and signs will say This is NOT the Future for Our Youth"!

MariKay Abuzuaiter Finch, RC Re: Peoples Assembly Flyer Tuesday, June 07, 2011 12:08:52 PM

Flyer looks a bit "toxic" - one reason the League of WV has decided to not participate...they may have trouble getting the 3-400 they want.
