Who will you be teaching? (Identify student grade level as well as academic functioning level and specific needs of individual students) Instruction will be centered around Teachers and Classroom Aides working with students who suffer from Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). Grade level can be anywhere from birth to age 21 and learning levels will vary depending on the severity of the students impairment. Who (if anybody) will assist with the presentation of this lesson, and what will their role be? Assistance will be provided by my assistant in a strictly administrative role. She will help with any physical demonstration packets or presentation supplies that will be utilized to instruct the teachers. What is the long range goal(s) that is tied to this lesson? Long range goal for this lesson plan is to overall increase the knowledge the teachers possess pertaining to this particular visual impairment so that they can more effectively approach their own lesson planning and classroom techniques. What is the specific learning objective(s) for this lesson? Specific learning objective is to explore and implement classroom activities better targeted to students with CVI. What prerequisite skills/knowledge will students need to effectively access and participate in this lesson? Student (Teachers & Classroom Aids) prerequisite skills will include but not be limited to basic computer knowledge and ability to navigate the world wide web, as well as learn new computer programs. When within the stages of learning will this lesson be presented? (Is it a learning acquisition lesson, learning fluency lesson, learning maintenance lesson, or learning generalization lesson?) This lesson will be presented at the end of the seminar as a way to allow the teachers the opportunity to walk their students through an application learned in the seminar. It will also allow the teachers the opportunity to better gauge what level of ability their students are functioning at. When will this lesson be completed? (Will it be a one-day lesson or a multiple day lesson?) If completed in class the assignment should be completed over 2-3 days. However, if the assignment is sent home to be completed with the parents the assignment should be given on a Monday and be due the following Monday. This will ensure the student and the guardians have time to fully understand and complete the project. Where should this lesson be presented to ensure maximum student access and participation? (computer lab, classroom, science lab) AND what materials will be needed? If computers are available in the classroom then the assignment can be completed there, otherwise the assignment will need to be completed in a computer lab or at home with the family computer. Materials needed will be a computer and the rubric listed with this assignment. Why are you planning to teach this lesson? Why must this information/skill be presented to the students? Teaching this lesson will ensure that the students (teachers and aids) are understanding the concepts that can be integrating with the students in their classrooms suffering from visual impairments. This test must be performed in order to ensure the seminar was successful and has aided the teachers and aids in learning new concepts and activities to be integrated. How does this lesson relate to the PA Academic Standards?

This lesson will directly link the previous applications introduced to the teachers and aids and allow them to utilize these applications in current and future classrooms. How will you determine if students have met the lesson objective? (Think assessment) Rubric included with this assignment will be utilized to access the childrens completion of the assignment. How should this lesson be presented to ensure maximum student access and participation? (lecture, whole group activities, small group activities, cooperative learning groups) Small group activities will be the best way for this assignment to be completed. It will ensure that the student as well as the teacher is grasping the concepts and that the student is receiving direct instruction pertaining to the applications and the project completion.

Integrating technology into the classroom and home life of the student. Assessing the students ability to grasp the activity being integrated or at least the basic concepts related to their visual impairment.

Assessment Plan (What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?) Teachers will be assessed through a review after the seminar has concluded that will allow the teachers to review the information they learned and determine whether it was useful. Students will be evaluated through the assignments they have completed previously as well as the final assignment and rubric. Materials: Computer Rubric

Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs: Increased time will be allotted for students not grasping concepts as quickly at home or at school, however the assignment is already geared toward students with special needs and the teacher and/or guardian will be doing the computer work and simply guiding the student through selecting the photos to be used.

Enrichment Techniques: Varying levels of the poster can be created as well as numerous more posters that can be created at home following the classroom assignment to help the student learn.

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able to participate in the lesson):

If a computer is not available in the home the student can complete the assignment at school in a computer lab or in the classroom.
