Coursework Objectives: To enable students to : 1. present their views /opinions based on one of the topics listed through oral presentation (Task 1). 2. write an essay on the chosen topic presented in Task 1. RATIONALE Through speaking and listening, and understanding discourse learners will be able relay and listen to main ideas and specific information from oral presentation. Learners can identify the role and relationships between speakers, attitudes and emotions of the speakers. Thus, oral presentation enables language learners to relay and elicit information to and from their peers while building up their confidence and improve their spoken language. Writing requires learners to apply the mechanics of writing, paragraph writing and developing and organizing ideas in order to sequence, summarize, provide reasons and elaborate an idea effectively. Learners concurrently learn the four language skills and experience a variety of student-centred approaches in language learning. This strategy enhances students competence in writing to meet the demands of beginning academic studies.

TASK 1: Writing Essay (40%) 1. This is an individual work. 2. Write an essay based on the topic chosen in Task 2. Guidelines 1. Write a personal response between 800 1000 words based on the chosen topic. 2. You may want to attach your pictures or realia as appendices. TASK 2: Oral Presentation (20%) 1. This is an individual work. 2. Choose one of these following topics: a. A PIace I Would Go To Get An Inspiration or Idea b. Becoming A Successful Teacher: My Tips c. Three Things I Wish To Do Before I Die d. Three Reasons Why I Like Myself e. Three Things That I Do NOT Want People To Do To Me f. Three Reasons Why I Should Have A Smart Phone 3. Prepare an oral presentation on the topic chosen. 4. Give reasons for choosing the topic and provide your personal views and opinions based on the selected topic. Instructions: For task 2, a) Prepare a 6-8 power point slide for your oral presentation. b) Present your ideas clearly to the class members in 8 10 minutes. c) You may use relevant pictures or realia to enhance your presentation. d) Print your slides and submit to your lecturer / assessor prior to your presentation.
