Always Extrordinary

chapter one Lea

Once again Lea found herself looking down at her left foot, captor of her insignia, finding comfort in the pale blue and clear crystals.. It was the only thing which could calm her enough to think rationally about the problem in front of her. Let's see, If 1/2x +1/2(1/2x + 1/2(1/2x +1/2(1/2x + ... = y, then x = ? . Ugh, unbelievable, she was going to fall short of an A-plus because of one damn problem. She heard the scraping of the chair in front if her as Alena Ellington stood up to turn in her trig test. Lea attempted to reign in her temper seeing as the only other person in 12th grade just turned in the test before her without even checking over it. To top it all off she returned with a smirk on her perfect face, then flipped her wavy blonde hair around as she took her seat. Shit, I gotta hurry up. Lea thought to herself. As the bell rang Lea stood up and turned in her test hoping everything was right so as not to jepordise being valedictorian. As she turned in her paper she heard her professor say, "so miss greenswood I see you've finally met you match in trig." She had no choice but to reply, "yes mr Howard that last problem had me stumped even though I studied hard every night up until the test." He shook his head at her, "young lady all I have to say to that is don't over think things they are generally much more simple than they appear." He handed her test back to her and said "take a seat and finish up, I'll give you a pass." She took it gratefully," thank you so much." " No need to thank me I know when reward is in order and you my girl deserve this you've been the hardest working yang lady in my class and you will always have my vote in whatever great things you end up doing." Hearing these words out of one one the toughest professors at Lake City High meant a lot to lea and she found herself tearing up. Pull it together Lea you cannot afford to show any weakness at this point. She inwardly scolds herself. She reigned in her emotions and took a seat, "thank you." She said. As she looked at the problem she took his advice she found that indeed the problem was much simpler than it appeared and finished it within minute and was walking out the door. In her haste to get to her locker she ran right into someone spilling her books all over the floor, thank goodness the halls were empty or it would have been a disaster. Without looking up she settled down and started gathering her books without even realizing whoever she ran into was helping her pick up her books. "I apologize for running into you." She heard a deep masculine voice say. She looked up into the most striking eyes she had ever seen. They weren't just one color but a multitude of colors swirling around in its depths, his pupils were rimmed with every color of eyes I had ever seen. How the colors managed to blend together yet look completely stark was a mystery to her. She found herself saying," it's fine just watch where you are going next time buddy." OMG, did she seriously just say that to the most gorgeous man she had ever seen?! Her snarky comment apparently hadn't phased him though," well if I recall correctly it wasn't me staring at the floor and racing down the hallway with a guilty grin in my face," he said with His own cocky grin. "And what makes you think I am guilty of something?" Whoa, where is this fiery Lea coming from? She thought to herself. "Babe, I know when a girl is guilty." He replied. " I don't even wanna know how that came to be" she responds. "No you probably don't he replies, I'll catch ya later." With that the mystery man heads down the hall without so much as a glance back.
Randy

As randy walked down the hall towards his next class he couldn't help but notice how...different she was. Something about her wasn't normal and if anyone should know about not being normal it was him, he was a freaking mermaid! Well technically merman, but mer all the same which meant he grew a tail when he got wet! His father had told him he would teach him to control his tail but that was before he left, now it's just him and his mom, who doesn't even know about his 'unique trait'. As randy walks into class he notices one thing right away, or should he say one person. She has long wavy blonde hair, light blue eyes, glossy pink Lips and one heck of a body. The girl notices him as well and looks his way, she gives him a small flirty smile and goes back to whatever she is doing. He walks up to the teachers desk and starts his normal 'new school routine'. Randy sets his packet for Mr. Covin on his desk. Mr. Covin looks at the packet and tells him to find an empty seat, when he scans the classroom he sees the girl give him a little wave and point to the seat next to her. Seeing as its the only seat left he reluctantly takes it, "this is going to be so fun" he thinks to himself. "Miss Ellington will you please take Mr. Shaw to get a text book and go to the study hall to get him caught up enough to do tonight's assignment," Mr. Covin says. "Of course Mr. Covin," the flirty blond replies. She gathers her books and puts them in a book bag which she tucks into her elbow, "follow me," she says. I walk behind he out into the hall, once in the hall the quizzing begins. "So I know two things about you, your last name is shaw and you are new here a quarter into the second semester" she states. He figured she must be smart if she was given the rest of the class off to help him, she's a teachers pet because he chose her immediately without a second thought, and she could be very useful in the future so what the heck why not get to know her. "And I know three things about you," she looks very confused as I continue, "you are smart, a teachers pet, and you last name is Ellington." "And how might I ask did you figure out the first two?" She asks. "Well simple, he chose you without any hesitation whatsoever, and he gave you the entire class off to help me which also makes me think you have today's class plan," randy replies. "Wow, I am very impressed and things don't impress me very easily as you might think," she says. "No I would think not," he says. I like this girl she's funny smart and going to be very useful. Randy thinks to himself. They walk through a few hallways until they come to a supply closet where she pulls out her own set of keys, go figure. She walks into a 10x10 room with shelves lining each wall floor to ceiling and aisles on the middle of the room. She walks near the back and beckons me forward. I do as I am told while she says "ok I know I was only told to get books for his class but I really don't feel like coming here again, and there is only one other student with keys so I will just get you all of your books now." "Ok" I say as she looks for Mr. Covin's class books. "Give me your schedule so I know which books to give you, believe it or not some teachers will use different books even though they teach the same thing." I pulled out my schedule and handed it to her all the while noticing how this was simply her way of getting close to me. I walk behind her as she pulls books from shelves and stacks them in my arms, by the time we're done not only am I carrying books but she is too. "Geez, you are taking so many classes, and I thought I was a school fanatic." She says almost to herself. "What locker number," she asks, "we are going to put all these books away then head over to the study hall." I respond and we make our way down multiple halls until we reach the end of a very clean bright hallway. I notice my locker appears as two, one on top and one on bottom, but in reality it was one tall locker. I looked over and saw the wonder on her face, wow I really need to stop thinking of her as a her or she. I think to myself, "hey I never caught your name." "Alena," she responds. Alena, that's a nice name, but its not...STOP IT RAMDY! This girl in front of me, Alena, is who I should be thinking about. Perfect body, hair, eyes, lips, she's as close to perfection as you can get, yet I still long to be looking at another. "Hello, where are you?did you even hear me?" She asks while snapping finger in front of me. "What?" " I said, what is you locker combo." "Oh it's, 12...3...11" I hear a click, she pops open my locker and starts putting books upon the top half of the locker. "Wow, this is a strange locker, it's two lockers with one door that looks like two doors. Weird" she

unloads books from my arms and replaces them with two books she was carrying, a notebook, and all of her books. "Hey, I'm not your servant. Find someone else to carry your books." "Come on," she replies completely ignoring my earlier comment. I have no choice but to follow, we walk into the library which apparently has study rooms in the back on the second floor. Who knew a school library would have two levels. We walk up stairs where a reading area is cut off from the rest of the level by a navy blue wall with one door. We walk towards the door, "so the study hall is basically a fancy lounge, we can come in here during study hour but we have to get a credit card thingy, which is like a pass, that only lasts for one hour, to stay in here any longer you have to have a permanent card. Only ten students have permanent cards including myself so make sure to stay on their good side cause when you leave you automatically get a pass from a machine so you can pretty much waste the day in here it's nice." We come up to the door where she touches her card to a black box and that apparently unlocks the door. When I step in side I am amazed at what I see. Alena sees my jaw drop and laughs, "I'll show you around it's about three thousand square feet if you include the downstairs level which only the ten permanent cards can get into or the librarian card. We've done it up a little, the students I mean. The teachers never come in here, only the librarian who is totally cool abut the whole thing she comes up to check on everyone every 30 minutes exactly so we've installed a little system it gives you a 2-minute heads up, for those who need to... straighten up a little, and it alerts you when she is down stairs again. Nobody knows about it but the students. " I stare at her openmouthed, "How did you do all this with out getting caught, surely someone would have tattled." "Yup, someone did, after that he was an outcast, was never allowed back in. There is pretty much an understanding that if you keep it secret you get all its benefits, if you tell, nobody will ever talk to you again. We haven't had that happen again though so it all good, lemme show you around." I looked at the large lounge we were standing in and asked why the room was tye-dyed pink and blue. "We'll this shows its a co-ed room, the pink is for girls blue is for guys" we walked forward into a hallway which was cut right down the middle with blue and pink. "This side," she pointed to the right wall with a pink door, "is for the girls. This side," she pointed to the left wall with a blue door, "is for guys, I can't go over there so ill get Steven to show you around but I can show you all the other co-Ed rooms." We walked past the doors for about twenty feet until we reached a little 8x8 room with a door on each wall, there was a blue door on the left wall and a pink on the right. Straight ahead was a tye-dyed door. She walked into it with me on her heels. It turned put to be a teeny 4x4 room, and waited for the door behind us to close. "Through this door is a dance floor, everything is soundproofed but when you open this door it lets out the music so we have to wait until the door behind us closes to open this one." W opened the door to a night-club, and I'm not kidding when I say night club, there are body's jumping around and people grinding, this is a full-blown night club. Everyone was dressed in club attire and to o top it all off, Alena led me toward what looked like a bar and to my absolute astonishment was a bar. Just without the alcohol. So what do you think? She asks. 'This is crazy' I yell over the music. She smiles at me and then asks "wanna dance?" "Why not." I respond and she leads me out to the center of the Dance floor. At first I kinda stand there awkwardly then Alena says " watch the people around you and watch me, copy their moves but follow along with me." I do as she says and find myself getting lost in the music. I don't even realize that I have been doing exactly what I scrutinized when I first walked in here until I hear I shrill trilling sound. "God, what is that?" "That is the LB alert" she yells. I watch in fascination as carpet is rolled over the flashing dance floor the music is turned down and jazz is now playing. People move chairs out from supply closets I didn't even know we're there. Alena pushes me down onto a couch and hands me a book, and then sits down next to me with a book of her own. I look around the room and see that some people are doing homework some people are whispering over coffee and others like me are reading. Exactly 30 seconds later The

'LB' walks through. She nods at us and walks through another door behind me. "Now we wait another 2 min" Alena whispers to me. I nod and then look down at the book that she gave me. 'The adventures of Ulysses' great one of my least favorite books ever. Whatever, I read it anyway. True to her word, two min later another alerts goes out, "ALL CLEAR" It rings out. I look up just in time to see Alena hug some guy and bring him over to me. "Seven this is..." She trails off "huh, I didn't ever catch your name" I stand up to shake Steven's hand. "Hey I'm Randy" I say while shaking his hand. "Steven" he responds while just barely swaying in front of Alena. Interesting, so he's either the boyfriend, wants to be the boyfriend, or is basically like an older brother. "Come one man ill show you around," Steven says. "Cool," I relply. We head back through the entrance to the club. "So, how are you liking Lake City High?" "Everyone's been nice so far." "Ya, Alena a real charmer ain't she." Steven says sarcastically. "Ah, older brother." I say. "What?" He asks. "Oh I just noticed in the club how when we were shaking hands you slightly swayed in front of Alena which means you are protective of her. So I gathered you were either the boyfriend, want to be the boyfriend, or you were the older brother. The fact that you just talked about her in a sarcastic tone means you're the older brother"I tell him. "Wow, impressive you caught that, and yes I am basically the older brother. I'm a year older than Alena, we went out for a few months but we just weren't a couple ya know?" "Ya I get ya" " Anyways we just broke it off and we have been best friends ever since, but I tell ya what she can be a little bit of a handfull." "She certainly lives life in the fast lane ill give her that."I tell him. "Oh ya that's her"Steven says. We come to the first door, "so you ever work out?" "Uh, ya I guess." I respond awkwardly "Haha, I'll take that as a no. But then how are you so built?" He asks. "Well, I swim a lot for one, but I guess it's just from working at the construction yard." I respond. He's about to open the door but instead turns around and balks at me."what?" "Dude, that's one of the most hard-core jobs around. How do you do it?" He asks in amazement" "Well, I never second guess myself. The minute I start to think about quitting I remind myself that we need the money, and they pay well." "Hey, I hope you don't mind me asking, but...how bad is it? I mean your financial situation? Cause you must be in a pretty rough spot to settle for the construction yard." "Well at first when we move to a new place It's tough at first, but its not as bad this time because I have some money saved up. I should have enough saved up to take care of us for a while in roughly 3-4 months." "Only 3 months? So you aren't really in that bad of a situation?" "Well, it depends on what you would call rough." "Why don't you tell me the rest while we head to the weight machines." So I do, I tell him how my dad left one night leaving only a note and a bank account for us that only I could get into when I turned 15. How we have been moving about every 7 months ever since I was 12. How I have to be very careful of how I spend the money and keep track of exactly how much I've spent. I leave out the mermaid part though. "Dang, you've had it pretty rough." He says when I'm finished. "Ya, I suppose. But it's all I've ever known so I it's just life to me." "I totally get that but no one should have to go through what you have gone through." He says, "now that we've been all sappy it's time to enjoy ourselves a little, you like to swim right ?"
