Henry's Angels: Raising money, raising smiles and enjoying every second!
Henry Schein Team Members regularly volunteer to help local causes
Gillingham, 06 March 2013 A team of employees from Henry Schein UK, one of the leading providers of health care products and services to office-based dental, medical and animal health practitioners in the United Kingdom, had the deep wish to give something back to the world and found an extraordinary solution driven by dedication, team spirit and empathy. Henrys Angels was formed in January 2011 by Team Schein Member Ellie Nightingale with the goal of providing other Henry Schein team members an opportunity to help local causes in practical ways. The Angels believe that time is the most valuable commodity they can give and together they can make a big difference. In May 2011, Henrys Angels were introduced to the good work of EllenorLions Hospice, Gravesend, an organization that cares for adults with life-limiting illnesses in the area of Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley and its childrens hospice chYps that cares for more than 120 young people in their homes across West Kent and the London Borough of Bexley. Equipped with plants, tools and bags of enthusiasm, and led by founding committee member Lyn Yorke, Henrys Angels overhauled a large patch of garden. After this successful pilot project, Henrys Angels became an ongoing initiative of Henry Schein, with a standing committee of five Team Schein Members who supervise all projects. Since the first project of Henrys Angels, nine projects have been completed with more than 2,150 hours of work spent either painting childrens bedrooms or charity shops, gardening, moving hundreds of bricks, wrapping gifts or washing cars to fundraise for materials needed. Furthermore, an enormous number of gifts, plants, pre-loved clothes, working material and other goodies have been donated for the projects or given to be sold in charity shops. Lynsey van Wyk, one of Henrys Angels founding committee members, said, Henrys Angels is proud to support EllenorLions Hospices. It is a wonderful cause and helping in this way, gives all of our volunteers a chance to feel they have helped out and really been a part of something special. The Angels also participate in other initiatives for good causes. A team attended the Mouth Cancer Awareness Run in London in September 2012 and the London Moonwalk for Breast Cancer in January 2013. Nearly 60 volunteers supported the different projects including an honorary Angel from a local electrical services company who donated time and materials. Henrys Angels have also received tremendous support from local companies, hotels, services. The Henrys Angels initiative has been established in two additional Henry Schein locations (Cardiff and Maidstone) and another is planned for Glasgow. In addition, Team Members from Software of Excellence, Henry Scheins practice management software company in Maidstone, founded the Angels of Excellence.
