General & Validity

Validity

The following documentation applies for the BX-IOM input/output module with the following issue state 20-2100002-01-01.

1.2

General

The BX-IOM (EXTENDED INPUT, OUTPUT MONITORED) can be connected to the X-LINE of Schrack Integral IP MX and Integral IP CX fire alarm control panels. The module has a galvanically isolated output for monitored devices (e.g. sirens), which are supplied with power from external power supply sources. The input can be used for querying ground connected power sources. The monitored output is split into three load ranges, and can control and monitor a load of between 20 and 1k. Upon loss of the loop voltage a separate fail-safe position can be programmed for the output. The addressing and assigning of the BX-IOM's parameters are carried out using PC-based software over the fire alarm control panel. The module contains a short circuit isolator. In the event of a wire break or a short circuit, this function ensures that the fault is localised and that the fully-functioning operation of the loop circuit is simultaneously maintained.

1.3

Notes about compatibility

an external power supply is absolutely necessary, since the module is not powered by the X-LINE there is no optocoupler input available in the backward compatible mode (up V6.x integral software) the load will automatically be determined The BX-IOM input/output module from issue state 20-2100002-01-01 is supported by version 7.1 and above of the Integral software. When connecting the module to existing systems, the Integral software must be upgraded to version 7.1 or higher.

The BX-IOM is backwardly compatible with the BA-IOM (EG072842) under the following circumstances:

2 Functions & Structure

The BX-IOM input and output module can be used is places where devices, e.g. sirens, should be monitored and controlled. Since the module can be connected in any position in a loop circuit, it is not necessary for the cabling for the monitored output or the input to run as far as the fire alarm control panel. It is therefore possible to achieve greater distances from the control unit. The monitoring current of the primary inputs and outputs is set electronically via the parameter setting in the peripheral assistant. After power-up, the cable and load resistance are measured and stored. If these values change by more than the tolerance thresholds which are also set in the peripheral assistant, then a fault message is sent. Even when the model is in a state where it is controlling something, a test is still carried out to see if the necessary current is flowing to the device.

BX-IOM Input/Output module

In accordance with EN 54, the type label, which is attached to the module, has to be placed in access level 1 (i.e. outside on the cover of the installation box)! Functions of the monitored output: Automatic and manual comparison of the quiescent current level Programmable load ranges Programmable sensitivity of fault evaluation Current measuring with fault message in active state (a defect in the output is detected) Fail-save position programmable Broken wire detection for triggering (activation when triggered and wire breakage)

Function of the input: Measuring the resistance programmable monitoring and trigger ranges Programming as a feedback input of the control output

Function of the current monitoring: Measurement of the current programmable monitoring range

2.1 Overview
The BX-IOM module is screwed into a plastic case. The cable inlet for the X-LINE and peripheral cables use PG cable glands. The connection to the loop circuit and of peripheral cabling is carried out in each case using a 6 pole screw-type terminal block. The following interfaces can be found on the BX-IOM module: X1 X2 Peripheral interface Loop circuit interface

Planning guidelines
The programming and configuration of the module can be found in the current Integral software documentation.

3.1 Power Consumption

Where there is a mixed operation of detectors and modules on the loop circuit, it must be ensured that the BX-IOM has the power consumption of approximately 5 detectors. Consequently the number of detectors that be controlled is reduced by 5 per BX-IOM module used, with a maximum of 32 BX-IOM modules permitted per loop circuit. In the event of a power failure, the fire alarm control panel is supplied with power by rechargeable cells. According to the configuration and peripherals that are attached (modules, detectors, sirens etc.) it must be ensured, that the capacity of the rechargeable cells is sufficient to permit the operation of the fire alarm control panel for a period of time which exceeds the prescribed amount of time specified (in a standard or directive).

3.1.1 Typical power consumption values for the BX-IOM

The loop circuit modules own current consumption should also be taken into account when carrying out the power consumption calculation.

3.1.2 Power Consumption Calculation

A calculation program is available for the power consumption calculation. There it is possible to enter the types of rechargeable batteries and the required supply interruption period (conforming to local standards and guidelines).

4.3 Connection example

When laying a 230 V connection cable, it must be ensured that the cable is not laid directly above the modules electronic circuitry. For the operation of the BX-IOM an external power supply is necessarily required !

Connection monitored siren

The device (siren) is controlled by this output. It is connected to the connections (OM1+ / OM1-). The required supply voltage for controlling the outputs and the required quiescent current for monitoring the device in idle mode is connected to the terminals VEXT and GNDEXT.

Connection monitored electronic devices

Elements with electronic input switching are called electronic devices, when they do not deliver a regular resistance value in the event of low measuring voltages for wire break and short circuit monitoring. It is therefore necessary to ensure that there is a defined resistance value, to ensure that the line monitoring occurs.

In this example a 1k resistor is selected, so that this resistor can be used where there is low power (ca. 1W). To guarantee that monitoring is carried out, the parallel resistor must be connected directly to the devices terminals. The load range is configured using PC-based software (Listgenerator) over the fire alarm control panel.

4.4 Requirements for the external power supply circuit

The requirement for the external power supply circuit is entirely dependent on the current uptake of the device and its operating voltage. Depending on the device and its uses, a buffered power supply unit may be needed. If a power consumption calculation is performed, the internal power supply of the Integral IP MX (B5-PSU) or Integral IP CX (B6-PSU) can be used. To cover greater distances to the device or in the event that the control unit's power supply can not supply sufficient power, it is recommended that a buffered external power supply should be used. In this instance, a power consumption calculation should also be carried out beforehand.

The relevant applicable standards and directives for external power supplies must be observed!
