Facility safety engineers must plan, implement and manage safety programs in order to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions. The safety measures implemented by the facility safety engineer require the application of engineering principles and technology.
Requisition Number 13-6206 Shift 1st Number of Positions 1 Security Clearance No Clearance Job Description This position will be responsible for assisting with the administration and management of Occupational Health and Safety Programs within the Facilities Organization. Assist, assess, and develop safety training needs working directly with the Facilities Director and the BIW Safety Department to provide direction within the Facilities Organization on compliance with OSHA standards, assisting the organization with maintaining safety and health programs and management systems, reviewing the effectiveness of compliance programs, identifying feasible means of abatement, providing technical clarification of standards and explanation of procedures and directives, training, conducting root cause accident and incident investigation and enhance existing programs to eliminate risk. In addition, will be responsible to coordinate our Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry, fall protection and dig safe programs, along with improving safety talk delivery program and provide direction for sub-contracted construction projects. Required Education/Training: Bachelors Degree in environmental, safety, and health science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry
standards. Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in a heavy industrial environment or shipyard experience required. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated training skills, coaching, and mentoring. Good problem solving and conflict resolution skills required. Ability to handle multiple assignments required. Must be proficient in Excel, Power Point, and MS Word. Unique/Additional Requirements Must be certified to develop fall protection plans or obtain certification within 6 months of employment EOE M/F/D/V.
