USB to RS-232 CONVERTER

The USB -232 Converter is an intelligent module which co nnects to a PC U niversal Serial B us port providing a high-speed asynchrono us RS2 32 serial po rt. The U SB-232 C onverter pro vides easy connectivity between the PC and standard com munication ports, not requiring PC reconfiguration, assignment of IR Qs or jumper settings.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
A PC with a minimum of a 75M Hz Pe ntium, or equivalent A minimum of 16M bytes of RAM One available USB type port compliant with USB1.1 Drivers are included on our software master CD that normally ships with ACCES hardware. Supported Operating Systems: Windows 98/SE, 2000, Me, XP, Linux - built-in to kernel 2.4.0+, MAC OS/8.2 and higher (including X). D river informatio n is subject to change. CONNECTIONS TO SYSTEM
The USB-232 Converter is equipped with a USB cable and a USB type A connector for connection to a PC US B p ort and a male DB -9 for conne ction to a RS232 equip ped data o r com munication terminal.

INDICATOR
A green LE D illum inates to indicate transm ission or reception of data over the serial port.

INSTALLING THE USB-232 CONVERTER


Note: The R S232 terminal should not be connected to the converter before the converter drivers are installed 1. Power on your com puter. Verify the USB port is enabled. Insert the floppy disc or CD co ntaining the software for the USB -232 Converter. 2. Connect the cab le of the conve rter to the USB p ort of the PC . (The USB -232 Converter is hotpluggable.) 3. W indows will detect the U SB device. Install the driver as described in the next section.

DRIVER INSTALLATION
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. The display "Ad d Ne w Hardware W izard" will com e up. Click "N ext". Click: "Se arch for the best driver..." Select: "Specify a location" and specify the drive letter for the CDROM or floppy drive where you have inserted the software. Click: "Next" to start search. Click "Next" to continue. Click "Finish". At this point Windows has finished installing the USB-to RS-232 Converter driver. The USB -232 is detected. Click "Next to continue. Connect the RS232 communication terminal to the USB -232 converter. Click on Start, Settings, and Control Panel . Double click System and click on Device M anager. Verify the USB-232 C onverter is listed in the list of COM POR TS as US B to Serial Adapter Installation is complete. The PO RTS section of Device Manager mentioned in step 7 shows the new C OM port numb er, follow ing the U SB to Serial Adapter:

UNINSTALLING THE USB-232 CONVERTER


1. 2. 3. Unplug the USB -232 Converter. Insert the converter software diskette or CD. Run the FTDIUNIN.EXE program from the diskette and reboot the PC .
