Needed tools: Soldering iron 10 pin header Theoryshare Cable Modem Modification Software Package JTAG Cable - Available in the Theoryshare Online Store Visit the Building a JTAG cable for schematics on building a cable Step 1: Open your modem Using a t-10 torx screwdriver remove the single screw in the back of your SB5100. Once removed use a razor blade to cut through the informational sticker on the bottom of the modem.

Step 2: Solder your 10 pin header to the JTAG port on the modem. This is the most difficult part of the SB5100 modification, if done incorrectly there is a very good chance your modem can be damaged. After soldering feel free to remove the metal shield over the signal processor indicated by the yellow arrow.

Step 3: Connect your modem to power, connect Jtag cable to the modem header and to your computer. Step 4: Open the Blackcat (SchwarzeKatze) software on your computer, when the software opens, it should detect your modem as shown here:

If your modem is not detected try reversing the Jtag cable, you will not damage the modem from simply connecting it the wrong way, but make sure it is correct before you attempt to program the unit

in the next step. Step 5: Program your SB5100 Go to the SB5100 tab in Blackcat, and program your new firmware as shown below:

Once this is complete be sure to install your bootloader on the SB5100 Tab Step 6: Enjoy your modem should now have modified firmware installed. Visit http://192.168.100.1:1337 to utilize the new functionality. Look at other generic to tutorials for your new modified modem.
