Simran KS Lamba - Contemporary Art Paintings

Simran KS Lamba is a self-taught visual artist from New Delhi who believes that If one has a unique perception or in another word is creative, one doesn't need to limit himself to a particular genre or form of creativity and expression. From making movies to creative writing, theatre, film making, artwork and installations, being true to his words, Simran KS Lamba has expressed freely in multiple media. The expression always seems to depict a unique point of view or perception. As the president of the Dramatics Society in Hindu College, Delhi, Lamba learnt to experiment with ideas without the fear of criticism. It was this lesson that got him into filmmaking. Seeing his short movies being screened at various film festivals has been a rewarding and enriching experience for him. His film, My Nicotine, was screened at the Cape Town World Film Festival05; ISFFA05, Bulgaria and FLEXIFFO5, Australia. WB-04 C-5542, another short film was nominated for the Tiscali Short Film Festival Award06 in Italy and screened at Anti-Matter International Film Festival06, Canada; FLEXIFF06, Australia and DIFF06, Ireland. Installations
Unison is a fusion of structured and unstructured forms as it blends the concept of an evolving metro with the idea of nature, which is constantly evolving. It captures the architecture of the city through the depiction of an intricately adorned building metamorphosing into a tree with its branches stretching out into the night sky. Two circular metal discs are used depicting this unison by being representative of the whole and unifying the the two ideas into a singular form. The installation seeks to recreate the contemporary tree of life which hinges on both the natural and the man-made to carry evolution forward. moments of a dying woman; was the Official Selection at the Darklight International Film Festival06, Ireland; IFCT06, U.S.A and Kolkata International Film Festival06. Lamba has also made his mark on the small screen as the Associate Creative Director of popular TV serials, Dill Mill Gaye and Pyar Vyar and All That besides working on a Bollywood Production.

Lamba having been an avid filmmaker feels that art is his true calling. A simple renovation of his house made him find a new way to express himself. Using Coal Tar, with a variety of solid and liquid metals on canvas and other bases, Lamba has compiled a varied body of artwork, titled Genesis. Genesis has been showcased in solo shows at the Visual Arts Gallery, IHC, New Delhi (July10); the Kala Academy Goa on an invitational basis by the South Asian Film Festival (September10), Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (October10), the ITC Sonar, The Art Gallery, Kolkata (December10), and the Sublime Art Gallery, UB City, Bangalore (February '11). Genesis has also been invited to participate in group shows in the past few years, such as: Crest dArt in Bengaluru, 2012 and Monsoon Fiesta at The Park Hotel, Delhi and Poetry in Frames at the Alliance Francaise De, Delhi, wherein, Lamba shared the platform with masters such as MF Hussain, Paresh Maity and Jatin Das. Genesis; Simran KS Lambas first body of art work is the beginning of a journey in arena of mixed media. Coal tar, Aluminium, and Industrial waste with a variety of solid and liquid metals; have been used depicting bold abstractions and forms, in this series and are the self-taught artist's foremost work mediums. Metal Gauge, mesh, wax, bolts and nails, construction material, tarmac are the other resources which find a way into the paintings. The inspiration for each artwork is as diverse as the technique, style and materials used in each painting. From animals to beetles to funerals to abstractions of landscape and portraits, the muse is as varied as the artists style of amalgamation of various mediums, forms and techniques. Lamba captures coal tar in its various forms with multiple layers of various treatments being involved in the creation of his artwork. Each stage is independently crafted and eventually metamorphoses completely as tar blends in with wax, metals, aluminium, gauge, mesh, wax, bolts and nails creating a mlange of form and abstraction that finally rests in Genesis: The Beginning. LambasInstallation titled Unison is a commissioned Installation funded by the Taj Hotel Group for their Vivanta Hotel in Gurgaon, marking the 100th Hotel owned by the Taj Group in the country. His mother, Mona Lamba of Monapali is a renowned fashion designer whom he credits his ability to see things differently through constant introspection.
