Abstract
The aim of this study was the monitoring of the effectiveness of a system of sewage from domestic waste through the use of macrophytes in an arid climate. The experimental system was designed as fellow; the duration of treatment was 07 days (Pic.1). The reactor effluent through the basin by gravity with a flow of 4 L/min. The retention time in the decanter was 60 hours. Irrigation frequency is weekly. The parameters studied are: (TSS, BOD5, COD, EC, pH), nutrients (total nitrogen: total phosphorus and TKN: TP) and microbiological parameters. The results showed encouraging performance, decline in organic load and microbiologic load (TSS: 95.75%, BOD5: 91.15%, COD: 91.92%, PT: 24.90% pH 7.5).

Thematic topic
The arid climate and vegetation gives specificity to Saharan regions, which are characterized by a typical ecological fragility, this requires caution in approaches and choices to deal with environmental problems. phytoremediation approach may be used to clean up several sources of pollution, the challenge of this project was to exploit the flora of these regions and their potential to serve this choice (Pic.1).

Our Analyzes allowed us to determine the potential of WWG system. A new approach was developed with the laboratory of ECOBIO for the treatment of PAHs. The species studied showed high capability to reduce the concentration of PAHs (Pic. 4) These preliminary results open opportunities for broader uses of Saharan plants for phytoremediation.

Problematic

The project was led and determined to control the potential of a water treatment system by macrophytes (plants that grown in the study area), and study the behavior of Selected species without forgetting the quality of the water obtained after treatment (PIC. 2, 3 & 4) .

The project partners are:

- Ministry of Water Resources (Algeria) - National Sanitation Office (ONA) - Wastewater Garden (WWG). - APC Tmacine - University of Rennes 1

Subjects of study

Selected plant can reduce pollution levels to acceptable levels? The cleaning up capability is more or less stable throughout the year?

Project This thesis project is a collaboration between Rennes university and the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Extremophiles Plant of Borj Cedria center. It will study the physiological, biochemical and molecular responses of plants to abiotic stress. This study will focus on how plants may clean up contaminated environment.

Hypothesis
Extremophile plants have significant potential in terms of adaptation and tolerance. They have already proven their ability to grow in extreme conditions, and were used to desalinate and decontaminate soil polluted by heavy metal. These traits may help extremophile plants to clean up PAHcontaminated sites.

Issues
o

Identify the mechanisms of degradation and sequestration of PAHs in extremophile plants. Identify genes involved in stress tolerance towards PAHs Isolate the gene or genes responsible for PAHs degradation and overexpress them in plant in order to increase the remedial competitiveness
