Essential Questions:
The student will understand that new technology has many types of different consequences, depending on how people use that technology. The student will understand that handheld gadgets, personal computers, and the Internet have made an impact on society in the past 20 years. The student will develop an understanding of the types and uses of handheld gadgets. The student will understand how lives have changed as a result of handheld gadgets, personal computers, and the Internet. Student will know. Who Steven Jobs and Stephen Wozniak are and their contribution to the computer revolution. Who Bill Gates is and his contribution to the computer revolution. Types of handheld devices and their functions. How to access and use Galileo as a research tool. How to use the following Web 2.0 tools. Mixed Book, Voki, Voice Thread, Animate, Sliderocket
How does technology change the way businesses produce their goods? How would your life be different without computers or the Internet? How have Americans lives changed as a result of the personal computer? How have Americans lives changed as a result of the Internet?
Student will be able to Use Galileo to gather information on personal computers, the Internet, and types of handheld gadgets. Use a Web 2.0 tool as a presentation tool. Identify 3-5 types of handheld devices and explain their functions. State key people who are responsible for the computer revolution. Produce a document to support their opinion as to whether the personal computer and internet have had positive, negative, or a combination of both kinds of consequences on American life.

Notes Additional articles on computers, the internet, Bill Gates, Steven Jobs, Stephen Wozniak, and hand held devices will be given to the students by their teacher for addition learning. Articles are to be based on individual reading levels of students. In addition, common core standards in language arts will be addressed. Students will be given the opportunity to work on performance tasks before/afterschool and during rotation times excluding computer lab and P.E. Selected computers in the media center will be reserved for this group of students.
