A new Venezuelan President was elected this month to replace the late Hugo Chavez. According to the National Electoral Council, Nicolas Maduro won by a slim victory of 50.6 of the votes while his challenger, Henrique Capriles, lost for a little over 1 percent. The nations heart seems divided. Wed like to hear what your thoughts are on this. How will the new president impact Venezuelans? With this being said, spring is in the air! This issue is filled with thought-provoking articles, for example, the story about our food supply written by Dr. Yasellyn Diaz Vega teaches us about how certain types of foods are processed which raises a question if we should really eat them or not. El historial de pago se refiere a la puntualidad de nuestros pagos con los acreedores. La frase YO PAGO TARDE PERO SEGURO, es el peor dao que le podemos hacer a nuestro crdito, seamos responsable con nuestros compromisos econmicos. No obstante, ante la prdida de empleo o difcil situacin econmica puede contactar a sus acreedores para establecer acuerdos de pagos mnimos que le permitan cumplir con sus compromisos sin afectar su crdito. Mantenga sus crditos rotativos (tarjetas) con mnimos balances comprometidos, utilice las mismas para emergencia y no para gastos cotidianos que puede cubrir con dinero en efectivo. El exceso de tarjetas reduce su puntaje crediticio, y los intereses a repagar sobre las mismas en ocasiones resultan ser en clculos variables. Dos porciones (2 enchiladas por porcin) 1 libra de pollo desmechado taza de caldo de pollo (o agua) 1 taza de cebolla finamente picada 2 cucharadas de aceite de cocina taza de tomates finamente picados taza de cilantro finamente picado 1 cucharada de comino 1/2 cucharada de ajo en polvo Sal al gusto 4 tostadas de maz 1 huevos duro cortado en rodajas (4 rodajas) Un repollo pequeo finamente picado y sazonado con vinagre blanco y pimiento taza de queso parmesano Salsa: 1 taza de salsa Prego mezclada con una cucharada de salsa de tomate (ketchup)
Ingredients:
Serving Size (2 enchiladas)
Ingredients 1 pound of cooked shredded chicken cup of chicken broth (or water) 1 cup of diced onion 2 tablespoon of cooking oil cup of dice tomatoes cup of chopped colander 1 tablespoon of cumin 1/2 tablespoon of garlic power Salt to taste 4 corn tostadas 1 hard boil egg cut in slices (4 slices) Small sheered cabbage seasoned with white vinegar and black pepper cup of parmesan cheese Salsa: 1 cup of warm Prego sauce mixed with 1 tablespoon of ketchup
Preparation:
1. In a medium pan heat the oil. 2. Add onion, tomatoes, cumin, garlic powder and salt to taste. Cook for 2 minutes or until everything is well mix and onion is clear. 3. Add shredded chicken and chicken broth. Mix well. 4. Add colander and let cook for about 5 minutes in medium heat. 5. Remove from heat and cover until time to serve. 6. Assembly the enchilada layering over the tostada the ingredients in the following order Chicken mix (about two spoonful) Seasoned sheered cabbage (enough to cover the chicken) Salsa (three tablespoons) Slice of hardboiled egg on the top Sprinkle with parmesan cheese

Mercedes Vzquez Simmons, quien naci y se crio en Rochester, NY, es la primera promotora licenciada de boxeo en la nacin. Su admiracin por el deporte comenz a temprana edad y recuerda con entusiasmo las veces que su familia se reuna a ver los combates del gran icono puertorriqueo Hctor Luis Camacho Matas mejor conocido como Macho Camacho; entre otros peleadores.

Adems de coordinar estos eventos en nuestra ciudad, tambin forma parte de algunas organizaciones de la comunidad, como lo es Ibero y Latinas Unidas - que se enfocan en asuntos relacionados con los Latinos. Ella tambin se siente apasionada por los problemas relacionados con la educacin en nuestra sociedad. Ella opina que Existe una falta de urgencia, y como tal hay que permanecer activo en la educacin de nuestros nios. Tal es su afirmacin, que mantiene un gran nivel de actividad y visibilidad en School of the Arts; escuela a donde ella fue estudiante y a la cual hoy pertenece su hijo, Taylor Simmons. Para culminar, me dice que uno de sus boxeadores favoritos de todos los tiempos es Muhammad Ali. Aade que no solo por sus incomparables habilidades adentro del cuadriltero, sino por sus acciones fuera de l. I have to pay my employees to be working at that daycare site so if I dont have children there, or lets say I have a child thats only there 15 or 20 minutes. Im getting paid by the minute from the county. Is that going to be beneficial for me to stay afloat? Is that bringing in revenue? I cant keep my doors open, Cordero said. Otra polmica de los alimentos genticamente modificados es la hormona recombinante del crecimiento bovino, o rBGH. Esta hormona se sintetiza a partir de bacterias genticamente modificadas de E. coli y mantiene las clulas productoras de leche en vacas vivas por un tiempo ms largo de lo normal, produciendo ms leche. El Cafecito Literario y Laura Esquivel en Malinche

Este mes El Cafecito Literario se reuni a discutir una novela llamada Malinche (2006) de la escritora mexicana Laura Esquivel ( n a c i d a en 1950), Diana Casais conocida por su novela Como Agua Para Chocolate que fue llevada al cine y logro gran popularidad internacional. Esta escritora con su sofisticado estilo de realismo mgico se dio a la tarea de materializar a Malinche entre las lneas de su novela, dejando que trepara por nuestra imaginacin, a tal punto que en El Cafecito Literario tuvimos la impresin de tenerla sentada a nuestro lado. Malinche fue una mujer nativa de Mxico que contaba con la habilidad para comunicarse en diferentes lenguas y que fungi como interprete para los espaoles, facilitando as la conquista Espaola en el nuevo mundo. Este libro brindo la oportunidad de explorar hechos histricos novelados y ayudo a redescubrir la cultura de Mxico a travs de su vocabulario. Un ejemplo importante fue hablar de la palabra malinchismo como adjetivo calificativo para aquellos que prefieren lo extranjero que lo que proviene de su pas de origen. Laura Esquivel nos describe la historia familiar de Malinche y de Cortez el conquistador, para ayudar al lector entender los mviles de su comportamiento. Literary Cafe Laura Esquivel in Malinche

Translated by Steve Farrington This month the Cafecito Literario got together to discuss a novel called Malinche (2006), from the Mexican writer Laura Esquivel (born in 1950), known for her novel Like Water For Chocolate that was turned into a film and achieved great international popularity. This writer, with her sophisticated style of magical realism gave herself over completely to the task of bringing Malinche to life, allowing our imagination to climb to new heights, to such a point that in the Cafecito Literario we had the impression that we had her seated beside us. Malinche was a native woman of Mexico who had the ability to communicate in different languages and she served as an interpreter for the Spaniards, thus facilitating the Spanish conquest in the New World. This book offered us the opportunity to explore real historical events in a novel form and it helped to rediscover the culture of Mexico through its vocabulary. One important example was speaking about the word malinchismo as an adjective to describe those who prefer that which is foreign over that which comes from their country of origin. Laura Esquivel describes for us the family history of Malinche and Cortez the conquistador, in order to help the reader understand the motives of his behavior. Nevertheless, in the book group, some found the novel to be seen under the lenses of a modern ideology or viewpoint, generating some contrary opinions, since they found in Malinche a woman with a concept of reality that was sophisticated for that time. However, we must keep in mind that the novel is a space in which the author lets him or herself go and allows his or her imagination to fly freely, thus projecting a scene that was traced through creative parameters. Malinche is a character of history who from her childhood is submitted to abrupt changes that never allow her the opportunity to part of any social group, due to the fact that she is abandoned by her mother and sold as a slave to another tribe that spoke another language. As we can imagine, Malinche learns to fight to survive through the learning of other languages from an early age. As a result, circumstances put her in favorable conditions that allowed her to become quite an interpreter. in the very heart of Mexico, divided in different tribes each with its particular language and way of seeing life. She was a woman who had to develop a great adaptive capacity just like the modern multicultural woman. To live and grow in modern times requires the flexibility to integrate an immense present in new multicultural parameters.
Conquests throughout history have always resulted in many problems and transgressions, and visualizing Malinche as a slave and submitted to taking the form of her master in turn made us question many things. Ida is part of the Advisory Committee for 292-Baby and Early Childhood Education Quality Council. She is a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan OM Program and a life-long resident of Rochester where she lives with her two adult daughters and one granddaughter.

E n t re v i sta m o s a Elizabeth C i n q u i n o, D i r e c t o ra Asistente, Desarrollo de Liderazgo Juvenil, Desarrollo de Voluntarios, Concientizacin a Jvenes y a la Comunidad para para la Cruz EVELYN CASSANO Roja Americana (Regin de Finger Lakes). Ella tiene 25 aos de experiencia trabajando con los jvenes de escuela intermedia y secundaria afro-americanos y latinos - con cientos de jvenes que se benefician de las oportunidades del desarrollo de liderazgo. Los temas en el plan de estudios de desarrollo de liderazgo incluyen el desarrollo profesional, la educacin financiera, y la resolucin de conflictos. Los objetivos de aprendizaje de servicio pueden incluir la organizacin de donacin de sangre, la enseanza a los ciudadanos a los primeros auxilios CPR (siglas en ingles), o la recaudacin de fondos para el alivio de desastres. We interviewed Elizabeth Cinquino, Assistant Director, Youth Leadership Development, Volunteer Development, Youth & Community Outreach for American Red Cross (Finger Lakes Region). She has 25 years of experience working with middle and high school African-American and Latino youth with hundreds of youth benefiting from leadership development opportunities. She is very proud of how the Rochester Red Cross has impacted the Latino community and refers to the local effort as good leadership. Good leaders challenge people to move beyond their comfort zone and good leaders make these people glad they did. We are proud to have Red Cross Clubs at the following local schools: Early College Prep, East High School, Greater Rochester Chapter, Monroe High School, Pittsford Sutherland and at SUNY Geneseo College. But the program is not limited -- if a youth is currently enrolled in school, we encourage them to start or join a Red Cross Club! Dos de mis cuentos los escrib en la casa de mis padres, en Argentina. Rosie Catamoli va a Paris se llama as porque Rosie Catamoli es una pingino de peluche de mi hija Sofa, y ese es el nombre que mi hija le puso al mueco (qu imaginacin de nombre!) Todos mis cuentos son especiales para m. Siempre trato de pensar las cosas que te gustara leer o lo que te gustara imaginar. Cuando los escribo (muchas veces, por cierto), a veces puedo ver los dibujos de los cuentos en mi mente. Otras veces eso no ocurre. Happy Birthday!
In this month of April we are celebrating a birthday. Imagining Your Own Book is a year old! When one celebrates a birthday, generally, people tell a little bit about their lives, of what they like to do, or their dreams. The Aroma of Spring seven times before submitting it to the newspaper! For that reason, before each story, I always repeat that your imagination is bigger than mine. My second story, The Dream of Dreams, was born one day when I began to play with Today, we will not have a story; rather I am my hands. In the story, Andrs, the main going to tell you how this column and a few character, has a birthmark on his hand; that of the stories from Imagining Your Own is my mark on my left hand. I spoke with my parents who live in Argentina, with my sister, with my husband, with friends from Rochester and other areas of the world, with my editor and with the publisher of the newspaper. Finally, I also spoke with my daughter Sofia. The name Imagining Your Own Book came to my mind in an unusual way. While I was sleeping, I dreamed of the name. I woke up and I wrote it in a little notebook I have beside my bed. Thats how I started thinking about what I would write. I only had the beginning and the end, but nothing about the original story. I fell back asleep again. The first story I wrote is called The Aroma of Spring. In this story, there is a girl, Sofia and that Sofia is my daughter, who is six years old. In the story, theres a big tree with small white flowers; that tree is in my yard. I remember that it was early in the afternoon on a Friday when I began to write the story. This story has approximately 400 words; I wrote it four times. The third story came to mind the day that I met Dave -- my boss and the owner of La Voz newspaper. I dont know why but we began to talk about dictionaries and so it was in that first appointment at La Voz, the thought grew in my mind, The Dictionarys Graduation. There are some short stories which are easier to write than others. Many of them were born after looking at a photograph, like for example, The Hanging Bridge, or from places I visited, like for example The Postcards Trip, The Unicorn of the Tapestry, and The Reading Factory. Two of my stories were ones that I wrote in my parents house in Argentina. Rosie Catamoli goes to Paris is called that way because Rosie Catamoli is a stuffed-animal penguin that belongs to my daughter Sofia, and that is the name that my daughter gave her doll (what an imaginative name!) All of my stories are special for me. I always try to think of things that you would like to read or that you would like to imagine. When I write them (many times, for sure), I can see the drawings of the stories in my mind. Other times that does not happen. When From Here to the Moon came alive in my imagination, first of all I saw the pictures in my mind and afterwards I felt the words in my heart. In my opinion, that is the sweetest story that Ive written up to now.
En este mes de abril, estamos de cumpleaos, Imaginando tu propio libro, cumple un ao! Cuando se celebra un cumpleaos, generalmente las personas cuentan un poco sobre su vida, de lo que le gusta hacer o de sus sueos. Pero si saba esto: que escribira para nios, enfocndome en las edades de 4 a 8 aos, que tena que escribir entre 750 a 850 palabras, que el trabajo sera bilinge, y original. Tambin saba otra cosa: que tena miedo! Por una semana estuve pensando qu hacer. Habl con mis padres que viven en Argentina, con mi hermana, con mi esposo, con mis amigos de Rochester y de otras partes del mundo, con mi editora y con el dueo del peridico. Finalmente, tambin habl con mi hija Sofa. El nombre Imaginando tu propio libro lleg a mi mente de forma inusual. Mientras dorma, so el nombre. Me despert y lo escrib en una libretita que tengo al lado de mi cama. As comenc a pensar lo que escribira. Solamente tena el principio y el final pero nada sobre el cuento original. Me volv a dormir otra vez. El primer cuento que escrib se llama Aroma de primavera. En este cuento hay una nia, Sofa -- esa Sofa es mi hija, de 6 aos. En la historia hay un rbol grande con pequeas flores blancas; ese rbol est en mi jardn. Recuerdo que era un viernes temprano por la tarde cuando comenc a escribir el cuento. Este cuento tiene aproximadamente 400 palabras; lo escrib 4 veces.
Al final, cuando pens que estaba terminado, se lo le a Sofa. La primera -Marcela vez ella me dijo: - Mam, este cuento es horrible. Yo pens, no es tan horrible, es adorable. Lo volv a escribir 3 veces ms. En total escrib Aroma de primavera 7 veces antes de someterlo al peridico! Por eso, antes de cada cuento siempre repito que t imaginacin es ms grande que la ma. Mi segundo cuento, El sueo de los sueos, naci un da cuando comenc a jugar con mis manos. En el cuento, Andrs, el protagonista, tiene un lunar en su mano; ese es mi lunar en mi mano izquierda. Mirando mi lunar descubr El sueo de los sueos. El tercer cuento lleg a mi mente el da que conoc a Dave, mi jefe y el dueo del peridico La Voz. No s por qu comenzamos a hablar de diccionarios y as en esa primera cita en La Voz, creci en mi mente La graduacin del diccionario. Hay algunos cuentos que son ms fciles de escribir que otros.
