"Eat your fruits and vegetables" is one of the tried and true recommendations for a healthy diet, and for good reason. Eating plenty of vegetables and fruits can help you ward off heart disease and stroke, control blood pressure, prevent some types of cancer, avoid a painful intestinal ailment called diverticulitis, and guard against cataract and macular degeneration. It can even have a stabilizing effect on blood sugar and can help keep your appetite in check. It's hard to argue with the health benefits of a diet rich in vegetables and fruits. Doctors agree that its vital to ones health. And although not everyone loves consuming these foods regularly, we should still make them part of our daily diet. But how much is enough?

Most people should aim for at least nine servings of vegetables and fruits a day. Go for a variety of kinds and colors of produce in order to give your body the mix of nutrients it needs.
