Williams Overview: Students will students will gain a better understanding of the color wheel and color schemes. Specifically, they will be able to identify primary, secondary, and tertiary, and color schemes such as complementary , analogous, and monochromatic. Objectives: Students will be able to distinguish the difference between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Students will be able to understand how the color wheel works. Students will learn the definition of hue, color scheme, and color wheel. Students will be able to identify and color schemes such as complementary , analogous, and monochromatic. What is a color wheel? a. A color wheel is a diagram that displays a layout of colors and explains their relationship to each other. Color wheels often show primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Who created the color wheel? a. The first color wheel was invented by Sir Isaac Newton What is a hue? a. The name of the color such as red, orange, green. What are the primary colors? a. Red, yellow, blue What are the secondary colors? a. Orange, green, violet/purple What are the tertiary colors? a. Red orange, yellow orange, yellow green, blue green, red violet, blue violet What are color schemes? a. A color scheme is a limited selection of colors derived from the color wheel. Colors in a color scheme are related to each other through their position on the color wheel. What are Complementary, Analogous, & Monochromatic?

Color Scheme 2 a. Monochromatic created by taking any one of the hues from the basic color wheel and repeat in various tints, shades, and tones. b. Complementary any two hues that are positioned opposite of each other. c. Analogous Colors that sit next to each other on the color wheel

Evaluation: -After the question and answer portion, to demonstrate what they have learned students will be given a short quiz on the material. They will get in a pair of two to complete a word search as an exercise. For another activity they will have the chance to create their own color wheel. Materials: crayons, color wheel activity sheet, word search, pencil, paper
