Conducted over 400 mediationsintheDistrictsofMassachusetts,PuertoRicoandRhodeIsland involvingawiderangeofsubjectareasincludingcomplexbusinesslitigation, all types of intellectual property disputes, discrimination and civil rights, admiralty, personal injury, environmental matters and products liability cases resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements with an averageannualsettlementrateinexcessof80percent.Magistratejudge representative to the courts Committee on ADR, which administers the courts ADR program, which handles about 200 cases annually. Between 2004 and 2010 responsible for successfully mediating all of the DES (diethylstilbestrol)casesfiledintheDistrictofMassachusetts. Frequentguestspeakerandlectureronthesubjectofmediation. Extensive use of mediationandalternativedisputeresolutioninconjunctionwithtraditional trialpractice. Handled 35 swine flu vaccine cases totaling in excess of $42 million in claims. There were no judgments against the government. Liability was admitted in one wrongful death case and a trial on the issue of damages resultedinanawardof$218,000.Fourothercasesweresettledforatotal payout of $160,000.
