We are making every effort to make our school secure and safe. We appeal to parents to help us by complying with the following: CAR DISKS: Please ensure that every vehicle used to transport children to school has a Reddam disk on the windshield. These may be obtained from Reception. DROPPING/COLLECTING: Please park vehicles on the school side of the car park, on either the north or the south sides of the building. This is to ensure that students walk on the sidewalk to and from the vehicles, thus preventing them from crossing the road, where trucks or other construction vehicles might be. CELLULAR PHONES: It remains the responsibility of each student to ensure the safe keeping of their cellular phones. Reminder: Cellular phones may not be switched on in class. Confiscation of the cellular phone will be enforced if this is contravened. (Please see code of conduct).
At the end of last term we celebrated all students who had a birthday in the First Term. These birthday celebrants donated books to satisfy all tastes and ages. Some students donated one book, some two or three and others, such as Tov Moreau in Grade 8, collected books and found books which made up quite a big pile. But whether it was one book or fifty books, its the thought which counts, and to all who donated books, again we say a BIG Thank you!

As from Monday, 14 May, the Adventure Zone for Grades 1 - 7 will be held in the Multi Purpose Room, in the Preparatory School (ground floor). Grades 1 -3 are held in holding class with the class teacher until 14:30, Monday to Friday, and on Wednesday until 13:30. Those children not collected by 14:30 will automatically be sent to Adventure Zone. If children have completed their extracurricular activities and have not been collected, they will be taken to Adventure Zone, and the standard Adventure Zone rates will apply. Parents are to collect children directly from Adventure Zone. Adventure Zone does offer a hot meal. This needs to be booked with Erin Hughes, 24 hours prior to your child attending Adventure Zone. This is to allow time to book your childs meal with the catering company. Erin can be contacted as follows: e-mail: erin.hughes@reddamwaterfall.co.za cellular: 082 052 8381

GRADE 1 and 2 DANCE Tuesday 13h45-14h15

RAPS
The Grade 8 and 9 Drama club are very proud to announce that they have entered the 43rd RAPS One Act Schools Plays Festival. They are very hard at work rehearsing and putting the finishing touches to their chosen play Stepping Out. The play Stepping Out is about a group of amateur tap dancers who make an effort to attend class every week, although everyone has a different reason for doing so. The play is set in the 80s in a London church hall and the story focuses more round the characters socialising than on the actual dancing. The characters differ in terms of status: there are some upper class posh attendants such as Vera, and then there are very loud, outgoing somewhat inconsiderate characters such as Sylvia. These contrasting characters lend themselves to some interesting points of view which in turn lead to some very amusing arguments and moments of conflict. Stepping Out is something of an escape and a challenge for the dancers, just as this play is a challenging opportunity for our young actors and actresses. Reddam House Waterfall Estate and Reddam House Bedfordiew will both be performing on the same night at The WITS Theatre. This performance will take place on Tuesday 22 May at 7 p.m. Tickets are R65 and can be bought from the ticket office just outside the WITS Theatre. Please come and support our young actors and actresses on the night! For more information please e-mail Mrs Garmany: shaye.garmany@reddamwaterfall.co.za

Dance will be working on a week A/B rotation due to the large numbers. Grade 1 will be week B and Grade 2 will be week A. We will start with WEEK B (Grade 1) next week Tuesday 15 May. All classes will take place Upstairs in the Media Centre in the Senior Primary Building, until the Dance Studio is ready. Children to be collected from the venue. Any children not collected within 5 mins of the activity will be sent to Adventure Zone.

The Green Warriors have a new mission this term - growing avocado trees for poor communities. We need YOU! We want every student in the school to participate. To do so you will need to recycle a glass jar, such as a mayonnaise jar or a coffee jar. Wash it out well and put a label on it with your name and grade. You will also need a few toothpicks and you have to save the pip from the next avo that is eaten in your house. GROWING THE AVOCADO TREES

Step 1 : Soak the avocado pip in water, making sure the water covers the pip. Soak for 48 hours (2 days ), no longer. Step 2 : After soaking the pip for 48 hours get your glass jar and 4 toothpicks. Take the avocado pip out of the water, pat it dry with a serviette or towel and stick four toothpicks into the bottom of it, at an angle. The widest part of the pip is the bottom. Balance the toothpicks on the mouth of the jar and fill the jar with water so the bottom of the pip is submerged. Step 3 : Bring the jar to school (pour some of the water out so it doesnt spill in the car!). Deliver your pip to Mrs Marais or Ms Nambas classrooms. We will top the jars up with water and keep them topped up. Step 4 : Wait patiently for your pip to grow a root and then a stem with leaves. Step 5 : Volunteer to help the Green Warriors when we ask for help to plant the avocado saplings into nursery bags.

From the Sports Desk

A reminder to all students and parents that in order for players to be selected for sports matches they HAVE TO ATTEND all practices. (All of the practices can be found on the Term planners.) As we are not playing in set leagues at present (all of our fixtures are friendly), therefore are not set on the same days every week. We will communicate on a weekly basis on the fixtures booked for the week ahead. All students must go with their teams on the buses to all AWAY sports fixtures. Parents may follow the transport and may collect their children and take them home in their own cars after the fixture is completed, but children are not permitted to travel to the fixtures in their own transport. We do encourage all of our students to stay after their match to support the other Reddam House Waterfall Teams. We have had a great response to our sports programme and if your child is not involved in one of the activities we encourage them to do so. Please contact me if you require any further information. Jamie Lee achieved a 3rd in Working Riding and a outstanding 7th out of 37 riders for Equitation. If she continues this way she is well on her way to taking Reddam House to Regionals for Gauteng Central. She needs to stay in the Top 10 for the next two shows. Reddam wishes Jamie much success. Kairav Ramsingh represented South Africa at the CANA zone 3 and 4 swimming competition which was held in Maputo between 25 and 28 April. Kairav won a silver medal for 50 m breast stroke, a bronze medal for 100 m breast stroke and a bronze medal for 50 m backstroke. South Africa competed against approximately 15 different countries was victorious in this competition with only 35 swimmers. Well done, Kairav!

(Opposite) The Open Soccer Team played against Sagewood this week. The match was played in good spirit and we had an exciting match with the winning goal only being scored in the last minute of the game. Reddam Waterfall went down 2-3. Our boys played well but just fell short. Skylar Ross scored both of Reddam's goals. Our u10 also played but lost their match. There was much excitement for our first matches with Reddam putting out two full primary school teams. Bravo Boys!
