On Friday 17th May explore Liverpool with your friends and family, as the city is illuminated with a free trail of events for a spectacular night to remember. From 4pm until late LightNight unlocks the doors of our world-class museums, galleries and heritage sites; staging a vibrant mix of events for all ages, from light projections to street theatre, samba bands to aerial dance, open studios and exclusive exhibition previews. The programme is bigger than ever this year, exploring the theme of Memory and Identity; and includes the launch of LOOK/13 Liverpool International Photography Festival and the official public reopening of Central Library, part of the In Other Words literary festival. LightNight takes place thanks to the collective energy of hundreds of creative individuals and organisations, and with the support of our funders. We welcome disabled and deaf people to LightNight. If you are interested in a British Sign Language interpretation or Audio Description tour or have any other questions about meeting your access requirements please get in touch.

Pier Head, Waterfront, L3 1DD 17.0018.00 Waving farewell to Cunards magnificent Queen Mary 2 and kicking off LightNight, a huge gathering of samba drummers will perform at the Pier Head including Beatlife, Anfield Samba Kids and more! For one night only Beatlife, who since 2003 have been providing access to music-making for schools and communities, will bring together a selection of their most experienced drummers of all ages to create a sound spectacle that will knock your socks off!

Take a relaxing walk through a candle-lit labyrinth in the awesome surroundings of the cathedral, and explore this ancient symbol of creativity, mindfulness and lifes journey. The Voices of the Labyrinth sing songs from around the world. Collaboration between Mersey Care NHS Trust and LJMU celebrating Adult Learners Week. Cafe and shop open until 22.00.

Sander/Weegee: Selections from the Side Photographic Collection
16.0023.00 A new exhibition featuring two of the 20th centurys greatest photographers. August Sander created extraordinarily sensitive portraits, a haunting document of 1920s and 30s German society. Prolific newspaper photographer Arthur Fellig, nicknamed Weegee, is known for photographs of 1930s and 40s New York.

Wolstenholme Creative Space presents an evocative series of colour portraits and landscapes from the 1980s and 90s by Rob Bremner, who was a freelance photographer in Liverpool for over twenty years. Curated by WCS.

Liverpool-based painter, Paul Bywater presents 30 new highly detailed drawings. The pieces are primarily portraits which will appeal to those who enjoy skilful draughtsmanship. The artist will be present to meet visitors.

If truth be told...

Travelling between LightNight events Hop on and off the FREE LightNight bus from 17.23 to 22.40. They are Easy Access Buses and will be buzzing with the best local musical talent courtesy of Threshold Festival! From 17.23 to 19.53 every 30 minutes from the Pier Head the CityLink C3 will be FREE (see route A on map). Then from 20.10 until 22.40 the FREE LightNight bus will run every 10 minutes from the Pier Head (see route B on map). Travelling into Liverpool See inside cover for details and special travel offers. Please note Lime Street Lower Level is closed for refurbishment, 21 April21 August. This does not affect Lime Street main line station. Please use Central, James St or Moorfields stations.
