Can I use the computers in the library?

The summer library hours are to help our students have access to books to read over the summer, so computer access will be limited to library catalog searches to help students find books to check out.

Will there be late fees?

No, there will be no charge for books not returned by the due date; we just ask that in consideration of other library users and the libraries we are using that books be returned on time.

Can anyone check out books?

Any currently enrolled student who already has a library account may check out books. Typically, we dont add new students registering to attend school in the fall until just prior to the start of school; if were able to add them during our summer library service period, those students will be able to check out as well.

How many books can I check out, and how long can I keep them?
Summer library visitors can check out two books at a time; elementary books will be due in a week; secondary students may check out books for two weeks. All books will be due back by the end of July.

What if I have a fine on my account from the school year?

As soon as payments are made for items that were lost or damaged during the school year, students may check out books during the summer.

Can parents check out books for their children?

Due to a variety of logistical issues, we can only check out to parents who have an existing account; unfortunately, we will not be able to add parent accounts for those who do not currently have one.

What if my book is due over the weeks when the library isnt open?
The summer libraries will be closed June 27July 7 for River Ridge and Four Points; and July 4-14 for Vista Ridge. If you have books that would be due during this time, just return them on the next date the library is open: July 8 for River Ridge, July 9 for Four Points, and July 15 for Vista Ridge.

What if I dont get a book returned before the end of the summer library program?
Books not returned before the start of the school year will appear on student accounts when they return to school in August. Check outs for the new school year will be restricted until books borrowed over the summer are returned.

Can I drop my child/children off at the library?

All elementary students should be accompanied by parents; middle school students may come on their own with the understanding that disruptive behavior may result in being asked to leave the library.

What if I lose or damage a book?

As during the school year, students will be charged the replacement cost for any books lost, and repair fees for any books damaged; circulation will be restricted until account charges have been paid.

How will I get in the library if the main building is locked?

At River Ridge, visitors enter via the secondary library entrance off the glass entryway at the front. Four Points visitors use the exterior library door to the right of the main entrance. Vista Ridge visitors will enter through the front of the school, or through the student entrance in B- building.

River Ridge Elementary school will be open from 9:00-Noon on the following Mondays and Wednesdays: June 10, 12, 17,19,24,26 July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31 Four Points Middle School will be open from Noon-3:00 p.m. on the following Tuesdays: June 11, 18, 25 July 9, 16, 23, 30 Vista Ridge High School will be open from 8:00-1:00 p.m. on the following days: June 17 - July 3 July 15 - 31

The importance of summer reading

According to research cited in a May, 2010 report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, children of all backgrounds make similar gains in learning during the school year, but that as much as two months of reading achievement can be lost over the summer months for children who dont read or participate in other learning activities. By 9th grade, this summer loss of learning can account for nearly half the difference in reading skills among students. Besidesreading is fun!
