DISCHARGE:
The valves and check valve placed on the discharge line shall be, in general, of the same diameter as the discharge diameter of the pump. However, when the difference in diameter between the discharge line and the pump discharge nozzle is equal to or greater than two diameters, the valve and check valve shall be of an intermediate diameter.

BY PASS CHECK VALVE:

For spared pumps which have common suction and discharge lines, a DN 20 (NPS ) bypass with throttling valve shall be installed around the discharge non-return valve in the following cases: - if discharge and suction line working temperatures are above 230C; - if process fluid can solidify at ambient temperature, e.g. water lines in frost areas; - if discharge/suction line working temperature is below -100C; - if draining of the space upstream of the non-return valve is required..

MINIMUM INFORMATION TO BE SHOWN ON P&I DIAGRAMS: o All nozzles including instrument connections; o Pump suction valve and strainer, and discharge valve and check valve. Provision of wafer type check valve should be avoided unless otherwise specified; o Pump drains and vents piping and destination. o The type of pump; o Pump auxiliary system connections such as, cooling water, seal oil and lube oil, steam, etc.; o Detail of lube and seal oil /sealing systems, cooling water piping arrangement, and minimum flow bypass line requirement for pumps; o Winterization and/or heat conservation (steam or electrical) where required; o Warm-up and flushing oil lines detail; o Pressure gage located on the discharge of each pump; the gage shall be installed between the pump discharge nozzle and the check valve;
o Pressure relief safety valves (if any);

GENERAL CLEARANCES: o o o o o o o Plinth Heights-----300 mm or as required Over ground and bottom of pipe (inside battery limits) at pump row access-way-----3500 mm Over passage way---- 2500 mm Headroom below structural or piping----2200 mm Around pumps (aisles between piping)----1000 mm Horizontal clearance At driver end of pumps, where truck access is required----3000 mm At driver end of pumps, where truck access is not required----1800 mm

DESIGN:

-Piping shall be arranged to provide full access to all pumps and to permit pump removal or replacement without disturbing pipe. -Pump suction and discharge shall not extend over pump and driver at such height to hinder removal by crane. The final sections of the lines to and from the pump, including suction strainers, vent connections, drains, flush and minimum flow lines shall be located where they will not interfere with the use of a mobile crane.

- Suction and discharge valves at pump should be accessible for operation without the use of chains or extension stems. -Pump suction lines shall be as short and direct as possible considering flexibility required for hot lines. -Suction piping shall not have pockets where gas can accumulate. However, if this is unavoidable, venting facilities shall be provided. -If the discharge line size differs from the pump discharge nozzle, a concentric reducer shall be applied. -Reciprocating, positive displacement pumps and also centrifugal pumps (if required) shall be safeguarded against a blocked outlet with a pressure-relief device. This shall not be an integrated part of the pump. The relief valve should be installed in a bypass between the discharge line upstream of the check valve and the suction vessel. Alternatively the relief valve may be installed in a bypass between the discharge line upstream of the check valve and the suction line downstream of the block valve.

However, it shall be assured that this will not create an overpressure of the suction system. -To avoid cavitations in horizontal centrifugal pumps of the double suction type, the suction line shall be arranged so that equal flow distribution to both impeller entrances is warranted. -straight run 3-5 OD.

When line size is smaller than suction nozzle concentric reducer shall be used.
