Industrial Revolution: SOL WHII.8

BLOGGING PROJECT
TASK:
In assigned groups of four, you will create a blog. Your blog must include at least five pages.
This assignment will completed in class and will be completed in sections as we move through
the unit on Industrial Revolution.
1. Each group member will be given a role. These roles will include:
a. The Researcher – You will research and gather information to be included in your
newspaper. You will also work with the writer to help organize the information to
be written on the blog.
b. The Editor – You are responsible for editing and proof reading the blog pages for
grammatical errors. You must compile the information and complete the
bibliography.
c. The Photo/Graphics Editor – You will locate at least one photograph for each of
the five blog pages. You will also be in charge of making sure the group picks a
theme for the blog and making sure the information is organized and easy to
follow on the blog pages.
d. The Writer: You will be responsible for writing the blog pages. Make sure each
blog page is at least three paragraphs. If you would like to post the information in
a different manner (i.e. not paragraph form) you must get permission from the
teacher.

2. As a group choose at least five main topics to write your blog pages. You must use five
different main topics from the list below. Use your unit organizer, frame, notes, the
internet and your text to gather information for your articles. The list below is a guideline
for writing your blog pages and additional information about the topicis encouraged.
a. An invention – Discuss an invention that emerged during the Industrial
Revolution. State who invented it, describe the invention and discuss what
impacts it is having on daily life and why.
b. The emergence of an economic pattern – Discuss capitalism, socialism, and/or
communism. State what the role of the economic pattern is in the Industrial
Revolution. Why did this pattern come about and what are the potential
consequences of the pattern? You may also write about Marx, Engels, Adams,
and/or Utopians.
c. Labor Force –Pretend to interview a child or women worker. Ask them what the
working conditions and living conditions are like. Or interview a union worker.
Discuss labor issues and/or labor unions in your article. Or discuss slave labor.
d. Imperialism or Nationalism – Discuss how the industrial revolution is influencing
imperialism and/or nationalism. Discuss why England is participating in
imperialism and what some of the responses of colonized people are to this
movement.
e. Impacts on industrialized countries – Discuss urbanization and social and
environmental changes that were brought on by the industrial revolution. How
are these changes affecting daily life in England?

3. You must include a bibliography with at least three references used for each blog page.
The editor is responsible for collecting reference information and compiling the
bibliography.

4. Your blog will be published to the website. You are encouraged to review other group’s
blogs and comment on them.
