The overriding expectation in Mr. Goodhues class is a Partnership of Mutual RESPECT: my respect for you, our respect for other students, your respect for me, our respect for BHS, and respect for any guests (including substitute) we may have in our class. What Students Can Expect from Mr. Goodhue 1) I care about my students ALL my students (even if wellness isnt your favorite subject ;-). 2) I treat everyone respectfully. I will never put anyone down, make a joke at their expense, or be rude. 3) I believe all students can learn proper health behaviors. Ill be persistent in supporting my students to give their best effort. 4) I will work hard for my students and strive to make the class interesting by making real world connections. 5) My primary goals are for my students to develop personal wellness and healthy behavior 6) I will support any students who need additional assistance to reach their wellness goals. If you need it, well go back and learn any missing pieces previous teachers may have forgotten to teach you. 7) I will make every effort to maintain open communications with students and answer every question. However, youll notice 8) I answer many questions with questions to promote your thinking and self-reliance. 9) I will grade assessments promptly, and give you good specific feedback on how to get even better. My Expectations of Students 1) Youll work in class by asking questions, trying to solve problems, helping others, and talking about wellness. 2) No one should disrupt the learning process in any way, shape or form. This includes, but is not limited to: distracting other from working, passing notes, taking others' possessions, or throwing objects. 3) Everyone should be ready and participating in the Instant Activity right at the beginning of class. This means getting materials ready, using the restroom, and socializing before class begins. 4) Have all materials in class every day. You will not be permitted to retrieve forgotten materials during class time. 5) People learn better when they collaborate. Youll get lots of opportunities to work in pairs or groups. All I ask is that we keep to inside voices. Inside Voice = the volume only gets your group to listen. 6) You may request a hall pass, but please get my permission first. I promise to honor reasonable requests, but will revoke that privilege for students who misuse the hall pass. 7) Dont pack up early. Dont leave the room until I say goodbye and you are dismissed by me. Course Overview This course is offered to students who wish to lose and/or maintain their weight and improve their physical condition and appearance in an effective and permanent manner. Activities include: aerobics, strength training, healthy food preparation, and classroom work. Emphasis is on developing healthy lifetime changes in eating and exercise behaviors. In addition, students enrolled in these courses can expect to experience energetic, enriching lessons centered around the twelve components of fitness, important health related decision making skills (decision making, assertiveness, resisting peer pressure, etc.) and strategies for seeking lifelong, healthy lifestyles. The concept of wellness is for one to gain understanding about the importance of the balance of one's physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, and vocational wellness.
