Part 1: Swindell Quote: Look at the Quote on Attitude in our Lesson 7 notes, on board as well and go in order 1: Dont Over think this! 2: Now Work w/ a 3: Provide a brief reaction to the quote. What do you feel he (Swindell) is trying to convey? Part II: Locus of Control 1: Define Locus of Control. The extent to which individuals believe that they can control events that affect them. (dictate what happens to you). 2: Take this survey (must sign up) and put results here: 3: Define. Internal Locus of Control: You think you have the ability to control your life. Individuals with a high internal locus of control believe that events in their life derive primarily from their own actions; for example, if a person with an internal locus of control does not perform as well as they wanted to on a test, they would blame it on lack of preparedness on their part. External Locus of Control: You have the ability to control others. If a person with a high external locus of control does poorly on a test, they might attribute this to the difficulty of the test questions. If they performed well on a test, they might think the teacher was lenient or that they were lucky 4: Come up with a real life example and explain how someone with an internal vs. external locus of control would handle it differently. Internal: Person does poor on a test-they blame themselves. External: Person does poor on a test-blame the difficulty of the test. Part III: Attitude is the Father of Behavior
