Introduction
Introduction
This guide is intended for Application Engineers, third-party integrators, or other qualified personnel who are responsible for configuring and installing StruxureWare Power Monitoring software and preparing the servers on which it is installed. Experience using previous versions of the software is preferable. The guide contains information about installing SQL Server 2008 editions and a StruxureWare Power Monitoring system, incorporating best practices and factory-recommended procedures to help reduce the need for ongoing support and to improve the reliability of the installation. A typical installation consists of a computer or network of computers running StruxureWare Power Monitoring software and one or more networks of devices (such as basic energy meters, multi-function monitoring/analysis/control devices, and/or intelligent relays). Review the StruxureWare Power Monitoring System Design Guide for information about planning for and setting up your system.
Note
Services personnel and fully-commissioned StruxureWare Power Monitoring servers are also available please contact Schneider Electric for details.

StruxureWare Power Monitoring can be installed in virtual environments with a supported combination of Windows operating system and SQL Server edition. It is recommended that you copy the content of the StruxureWare Power Monitoring DVD to a local drive in your virtual environment and double-click MainSetup.exe to start the installation process. The following operating system versions, SQL Server editions, and Internet Explorer versions are not supported on StruxureWare Power Monitoring servers or on Engineering Client computers: Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2003. SQL Server 2005 editions.

Internet Explorer 6.0 and 7.0 (also not supported on Web Clients). Web Client computers provide access to the Web Applications component of StruxureWare Power Monitoring. Web Client computers require a Microsoft Windows operating system, Internet Explorer version 8.0, or 9.0, Silverlight version 4.0 or later, and network connectivity to a StruxureWare Power Monitoring primary server. To access Web Applications from a Web Client, enter an address in the following format in your browser: http://domain_name/Web where domain_name is the fully-qualified name of the server hosting StruxureWare Power Monitoring, and Web is the default root directory, which can be changed during installation. For example, for server name srv1, company name MyCompany, and a root directory of Web, enter the address in the browser as: http://srv1.MyCompany.com/Web

Install and configure the Terminal Server component if Terminal Server connection to the StruxureWare Power Monitoring Primary Server is required. Refer to the Terminal Server Licensing Overview topic in your Microsoft Windows documentation to learn about Terminal Server Licence requirements. Perform typical setup such as ending a disconnected or stale session and installing programs. Configure Remote Desktop Connection if you require remote connection to the StruxureWare Power Monitoring Primary Server. If you plan to use TAPI modem drivers for Windows (WinModems) in your StruxureWare Power Monitoring network, install and configure the WinModems. Additional WinModem information is available in the StruxureWare Power Monitoring Help. Use Windows Update service to install the latest security patches and hotfixes from Microsoft.

Distributed installation
Distributed installation
A distributed installation is comprised of a Database Server and a Primary Server. A Database Server in a distributed installation hosts an edition of Microsoft SQL Server and your StruxureWare Power Monitoring databases. It can also host Reporting Services if they are not selected for installation on the Primary Server. This network configuration requires that you install the Database Server on your network before installing the Primary Server. A Primary Server in a distributed installation hosts StruxureWare Power Monitoring configuration files and the services that are required for the system to function. The Primary Server communicates with a separate Database Server to access StruxureWare Power Monitoring databases. Review the System Design Guide for information about planning for and setting up your system.

If you select Configure, the configuration of the report server is reset and reconfigured, whether or not it is working during the Report Server configuration phase. This action deletes any report server databases and saved report data.
NOTICE
LOSS OF DATA Backup report server databases and saved report data before you reconfigure the report server. Failure to follow these instructions can result in loss of data. If you did not install the Report Server on this Primary Server, and you click either Test or Configure, a message indicates that the verification or the configuration only takes place on the server on which the Report Server has been installed.
The Reporting Server is automatically verified if the Report Server has been installed on this Primary Server. Then a system check is performed to verify that the mandatory prerequisites have been met. The results of the verification are shown on the Check System page. If a problem occurs during the system check, the item is identified and clicking on it displays additional information about the situation.
