MITCHELL NAMED NEW DIRECTOR OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH


Dr. Daniel R. Mitchell has been appointed North Country Childrens Clinics Director of Behavioral Health. Dr. Mitchell succeeds Dr. Jeanne Emery who established the agencys mental health program in 1993 and served as the program director until she stepped down for health reasons in early 2013. Dr. Mitchell supervises a behavioral health staff that includes psychologists and licensed social workers. Dr. William Kimball joined the Childrens Clinic in February and works full-time with patients at the agencys Adult Medical Program at 238 Arsenal Street. Social workers Kristin Tooley - LCSW-R, Carrie Rennie - LCSW, and Erica Fostveit - LCSW also provide behavioral health counseling at 238 Arsenal Street and at school-based health centers in the Watertown and South Jefferson Central Schools. Erin Cooney, LCSW-R sees patients at North Country Childrens Clinics schoolbased health center at North Elementary School and also serves as Associate Director of Behavioral Health, a position to which she was promoted in 2012. The Childrens Clinics behavioral health services are integrated with medical care. Counseling is provided only to individuals who are patients of the adult or pediatric

medical offices, and to those students who are enrolled in the agencys school-based health centers. In 2012 the agencys behavioral health staff worked with children and families providing more than 3,100 counseling sessions to patients. Dr. Mitchell joined the Childrens Clinic staff in August, 2011. He has extensive experience in individual, group and family psychotherapy and sees patients at the Childrens Clinics pediatric office at 238 Arsenal Street and at their School-Based Health Center at Watertown High School. Dr. Mitchell received a B.S. from SUNY Brockport, and an M.Ed in Counseling and a Ph.D in Educational Psychology, both granted with distinction, from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. He has an interest in rural healthcare issues and clinical supervision and has published several articles in professional journals, most recently in the Journal of Rural Community Psychology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and a National Health Service Corps award recipient.
