Paz y Esperanza works to protect women and children
from violence in Peru, a country with one of the
highest rates of violence against women in the world
according to the United Nations. They help women
and children who have been victimized by sexual,
domestic and other violence seek justice; and, they
accompany them through the long healing process.
These women and girls are mothers and future
mothers. Many have suffered long years of abuse by

pregnant but he didn’t
care about that and he left, taking our two chil-
dren. Now that I have given birth my husband
doesn’t take responsibility for me or my baby.
I feel very deceived. Sometimes I don’t have
enough to eat. I have to work in the fields even
though I have a small baby. I speak Quechua. I
speak very little Spanish. I live two hours from
Huánuco.

their husbands. Others have been raped by a
relative, a teacher, a neighbor, a pastor or a
stranger. Some are mothers as a result of rape. All
find hope through the services provided by Paz y
Esperanza. “Fermina” and “Lida” are two such
mothers. To celebrate this mother’s day we ask that you
consider making a special donation to provide life-giving
legal, psychological, social and pastoral services to
mothers and future mothers like Fermina and Lida.

is my son. He is
the product of a
sexual assault. I
was raped by a
neighbor who
lives on the farm.
My son has poor
health. He has an infection in his eyes and the
doctors tell me that he may go blind.
We live with my parents and five siblings in the
province. I speak Quechua and my parents are
farmers. I never went to school so I don’t know
how to read or write. I suffer from paralysis in my
lower limbs and I can’t walk on my own.
The prosecutor is asking for 8 years of prison
time for the man who raped me.

• Pray for justice, healing, and economic self-
sufficiency for the mothers with whom Paz y
Esperanza works and for all mothers in Peru.
• Pray for the new Paz y Esperanza office in
Guayaquil, Ecuador.
• Pray for the Schools of Women’s Rights to be
established in Peru under the leadership of
Paz y Esperanza.

Journey to Justice ~
Over 80 people attended the May 2 Journey to
Justice event sponsored by Peace and Hope, Bethle-
hem Baptist Church, Freedom Firm and Source Minis-
tries, providing people with an experiential journey
through the world of human trafficking in Ecuador
and India.
