COMPREHENSIVE ASSET MANAGEMENT PLAN TASK SHEET CONDITION AND RESIDUAL LIFE ASSESSMENTS

APPLICATION AND PURPOSE

Reference

Condition assessment describes the process of a qualified group of trained industry professionals performing an analysis of the condition of facilities to estimate the time the asset can remain in productive service. It provides a subjective estimate of existing plant condition and the equipment fitness-for-service level. IWK CURRENT PRACTICE

3.5.1

Reference

IWK have no current formal Condition Assessment & Residual Life Assessment processes or activities. IWK RECOMMENDED PRACTICE

4.3

Reference

It is recommended that IWK do not implement CARL on am asset-wide basis. CARL is not seen to provide added value if an effective maintenance system is in place. A maintenance strategy for IWK is included in the CAMP, Section 5.11. Implementing a CARL in addition to an effective maintenance strategy including EEL would not necessarily provide enhanced information on the effective and residual life of an asset. However, IWK has to make a corporate decision if CARL is seen to be valuable in the context their asset management system. If adopted, IWK has to formally document their CARL procedures, acceptance criteria, etc. in a document for wider dissemination within the company. If required, development of an internal IWK Training Course for personnel involved in CARL Assessments will assist in standardising decisions on plant acceptability. IWK to decide if external expertise is required to assist in initial implementation of CARL. DATA REQUIREMENTS

Timeframe Reference

IWK to decide if CARL is a viable objective for roll-out of the CAMP goals. If a viable option, IWK to develop a formal procedure for CARL to establish assessment team requirements, competencies and condition guidance levels. IWK to develop an action plan based upon asset criticality for the implementation and roll-out of CARL assessments. IWK to determine whether external assistance is required to implement formal CARL. IWK Champion to manage the process of deciding whether CARL is valuable for the organization. If so, potentially identify specialist external help. Develop IWK CARL Documentation. WorleyParsons suggests that IWK utilise the attached high-level "Process Coordination Map" (PCM) as a starting point for their ownership of CARL and further develop their process and procedures. Develop a criticality-focused list for assets intended for CARL implementation ADDITIONAL/SUPPORT NOTES Potential requirements for specialist third-party non-destructive testing, if required. Potentially an area for specialist external support in the initial period of implementation.
