    PURPOSE: ToestablishpoliciesandprocedureforthedisposalofscrapmetalgeneratedbySchoolDistrict operationsordeclaredsurplusorabandonedonDistrictownedproperty. AUTHORITY: 1. FloridaStatutes,Chapter274. POLICY: 1. ScrapmetalisanassettotheDistrict,anditsdisposalissubjecttothesamebusinesspractices thatgovernthedisposalofallotherDistrictsurplusassets. 2. ItisthepolicyoftheSchoolDistrictofIndianRiverCountythatscrapmetalwillbecollectedand recycledtothemaximumpracticalextent.Wheneverpossible,revenuewillbegeneratedfrom thedisposalofscrapmetalandcreditedtothegeneralfund. DEFINITION: ScrapMetalAnymetalnolongernecessarytoDistrictoperations,including,butnotlimitedto; iron,steel,aluminum,brass,copper,insulatedwireandprintedcircuitboards.

PROCEDURE: ItwillbetheresponsibilityoftheMaintenanceand/orFacilitiesDepartmenttoindentifysurplusscrap metal to the Property Records Department. When necessary the Property Records Department will contactthePurchasingDepartmentsothatanofficialquotemaybeobtained.Awardistobemadeto the vendor who provides the highest bid for the scrap and in some cases this may also require removalfromthe Districtssite.Quotesare tobe obtainedfromvendorswhoby definitionarein the general business of purchasing scrap metal. Only checks from the vendor shall be accepted for the paymentofscrapmetalandonnooccasionshallcashbeacceptedforthesaleofsurplusmetal.
