Commissioning

7

When carrying out any work on the machine, observe the general safety instructions
(Page 13) and the specifications contained in DlN EN 50110-1 as regards working safely with
and on electrical machines.

Service Center
Please contact the Service Center (Page 99), if you require commissioning support.

7.1 Preparing for commissioning
Once the system has been correctly installed, you should check the following prior to
commissioning:

Note
Checks to be carried out prior to commissioning
The following list of checks to be performed prior to commissioning does not claim to be
complete. lt may be necessary to perform further checks and tests in accordance with the
specific situation on-site.

* The machine has been properly installed and aligned.
* All fixing screws, connection elements and electrical connections have been tightened with
the specified torque.
* The operating conditions correspond to the data specified on the rating plate.
* The rotor can spin without coming into contact with the stator.
* lf the second shaft extension is not in use, its featherkey is secured to prevent it from being
thrown out, and cut back to roughly half its length if the rotor has balancing type "H"
(standard type). The open shaft extension is covered.
* All touch protection measures for moving and live parts have been taken.
* The output elements are correctly set, e.g.
÷ Couplings are aligned and balanced.

* The grounding and equipotential bonding connections have been made correctly.
* The machine is connected so that it rotates in the direction specified.

* Appropriately configured control and speed monitoring functions ensure that the motor
cannot exceed the permissible speeds specified on the rating plate. See also the system-
specific documentation.
* The minimum insulation resistances and minimum air clearances have been observed.
* Any bearing insulation that has been fitted is as shown on the plates and labels.
* Any supplementary motor monitoring devices and equipment have been correctly
connected and are fully functional.
* lf thermometers have been fitted for monitoring the bearing and/or winding temperatures,
the "Warning" and "Shutdown" values are set on the monitoring device.

* Check that the machine cooling is available for commissioning.

* While being operated on the converter, the motor cannot exceed the specified upper speed
limit n
max
or undershoot the lower speed limit n
min
.
lf the design of the motor requires connection to a particular converter type, the rating plate
will contain corresponding additional information.

* The bearing insulation should be executed as shown on the plates.
7.2 Measure the insulation resistance
Measuring the insulation resistance and polarization index (Pl) provides information on the
condition of the machine. lt is therefore important to check the insulation resistance and the
polarization index at the following times:
* Before starting up a machine for the first time
* After an extended period in storage or downtime
* Within the scope of maintenance work
The following information is provided regarding the state of the winding insulation:
* ls the winding head insulation conductively contaminated?
* Has the winding insulation absorbed moisture?
As such, you can determine whether the machine needs commissioning or any necessary
measures such as cleaning and/or drying the winding:
* Can the machine be put into operation?
* Must the windings be cleaned or dried?
Detailed information on testing and the limit values can be found here:
"Testing the insulation resistance and polarization index"

7.3 Greasing the roller bearings prior to commissioning
* Regrease the roller bearings prior to commissioning if the machine has been out of
operation for more than a year. The shaft must rotate so that the new grease can be
distributed across the bearings.
* Regrease the roller bearings prior to commissioning in the following circumstances:
÷ When the machine has been in storage in favorable conditions, e.g. in dry rooms that
are free of dust and vibrations. This applies to the period between delivery and
commissioning, or longer periods of stoppage.
÷ lf the machine has been in storage in unfavorable conditions for more than two years.

Note
Pay attention to the instructions on the lubricant plate.

7.4 Set values for temperature monitoring (slot thermometer)
Before the first machine run, set the tripping temperatures of the monitoring system.
The tripping temperatures of slot thermometers differ depending on the temperature class of
the machine. The temperature class can be found on the rating plate.
Table 7-1 Guidelines for setting the tripping temperature of slot thermometers
Set value Temperature class F/B Temperature class F/F
Prior to
commissioning
for shutdown T0 = 120°C T0 = 140°C
During operation for warning T1 = T + 10 K (max. 135°C) T1 = T + 10 K (max. 150°)
for shutdown T2 = T + 15 K (max. 140°C) T2 = T + 15 K (max. 155°)
T = temperature in steady state (°C)
7.5 Set values for temperature monitoring (bearing thermometer)
Before the first machine run, set the tripping temperatures of the monitoring system.

Prior to commissioning for shutdown T0 = 95°C
During operation for warning T1 = T + 2 K (max. 97°)
for shutdown T2 = T + 5 K (max. 100°)
