Good day to you all and yet another warm welcome to the nearest example the city has

to Jancis Robinsons Purple pages. Yes its Amathus Citys once fortnightly newsletter updating your good selves with the latest news and current affairs in the eclectic world of the beverage industry. Think of it as a bulletin for booze, in the finest possible sense of course, centred on new products and events occurring here at Amathus Drinks in Leadenhall. As usual well highlight new products, local events and whats new in our enomatic machine that remains free for you to try over the next fortnight. First of all lets recap on the past week with a quick report on our Dolin vermouth tasting. On show were the dry, sweet white and red. As the heat began to rise over the city on Friday lunchtime, pickings were slim, but eventually the curious and the savvy tentatively approached the produce and discovered the summery delight that is vermouth. Slightly chilled with a slice of lemon, the subtle aromatics drift from the glass as a delicately fortified fruit coats the mouth. These vermouths are much less sweet than other bigger brands and the aromatics more seductive. Takers were charmed by these much underappreciated aperitifs and preferences were spread between the three bottlings. Dont forget we still have these products open here to try and they can be enjoyed on their own or as part of many different cocktail recipes. These are also part of Amathus ever growing range of agency products and its our endeavour to bring you the very best in wines spirits and liqueurs. Now then, I hear you cry, whats this curious concoction called Crude Oil youre selling elucidated by labels depicting grotesque apparitions of skulls and hellfire? Well its a Swedish thing. Need I say more? If you like Liquorice (which I do) and chillies (which I do), Im game if youre game. The messy demise of many a Scandinavian student party I fear has been caused through the over consumption of this liqueur which is produced by brewers from Vrby, a municipal district near Stockholm. We also happen to stock their beer going by the name of Pistonhead Lager which boasts the use of Munchener and Pilsner malts with Spalter select, magnum and perle hops. Other new non agency lines to grace our shelves include Deaths Door Gin winging its way from Wisconsin, which promises simplicity, local sourcing of wheat and botanicals and exceptionality of produce all bottled at a healthy 47% in volume, which Im told on good authority all great gins need for mixing! In addition we welcome more Japanese whiskies to our burgeoning range. Fresh in are Yoichi 10 year old, a vatted blend of the distillerys single malts and the Nikka Coffey Grain, distilled from Maize and corn. Lastly a quick mention for two new Compass Box blended malt whisky bottlings, the rich and soft Great King St. and the very famously and ominously named Peat Monster. While this completes the new additions to our range here are a couple of dates to mark in your diaries; Leadenhall Market will be hosting a Bastille Day celebration encompassing all things French on of course Bastille Day Monday 15th July. We are promised live music and dancing and you can be sure that well find something fitting for such an occasion on tasting in the vicinity of our Leadenhall shop. Dont miss the fun and frolicking and the gastronomy to match over the lunch period a good time is promised to all.

Throughout this week for those who may be interested Leadenhall Market plays host to the Elevated Art Fair. This is a week-long exhibition of contemporary artists work, an opportunity to browse through artwork in the wonderful surroundings in one of Londons oldest and prettiest of markets. On very short notice we will be tasting our own agency Champagne by P. Louis Martin here over lunchtime on Tuesday 9th July. These are superb quality wines from the legendary area of Bouzy in the heart of the Champagne region. If its not too late, pop along to taste and chat, the more the merrier, well always be happy to see you. Lastly heres a quick mention for the some of the wines we will be showing in our enomatic machine. Highlights include our sumptuous Collioure blanc, peaches and apricots aplenty with a good dose of mineral chalkiness. Albarino Aged in Limousin oak, a winner to match the summer weather and a wonderful summer red;Chateau de Sonnay Chinon-slightly chilled and reminiscent of raspberries and soft tobacco, what a treat!
