Roxanne

Qualls, Strong Leadership for Labor/Workers Roxanne Qualls believes that organized labor and the rights of workers must be protected. Earlier this year, she opposed yet another attack on workers rights by supporting a resolution against Right to Work. In a time where many cities were laying off police and firefighters, it was Roxanne who worked tirelessly to eliminate layoffs. She has demonstrated her support of working families by requiring city contractors to pay a living wage and abide by the National Labor Relations Act. When Issue 2 threatened to destroy the labor community, Roxanne campaigned to defeat it. Roxanne Qualls on Labor: o Supported a resolution opposing Right-to-Work legislation 2013 o Introduced a requirement that all city contractors will abide by the National Labor Relations Act 2013 o Supported Responsible Bidder ordinance 2013 o Supported requiring prevailing wage on projects with 30% city subsidy 2013 o As Finance chair passed a budget for 2011 that eliminated layoffs for all represented employees, and in 2013 eliminated all layoffs for police and fire. o Opposed Issue 2 and included No on Issue 2 on every piece of Qualls campaign literature during 2011 council campaign. o Introduced resolution to oppose outsourcing of Norwood call center 2012

Roxanne Qualls, Strong Advocate for Women Roxanne Qualls has always been an outspoken advocate for women. She was the director of two separate rape crisis and domestic violence centers, and helped educate communities about how to prevent these types of abuse. Prior to serving in elective office, Roxanne served as the first Director of the Northern Kentucky Rape Crisis Center (1975-1977), now known as the Women's Crisis Center, the Executive Director of Women Helping Women (1977-1979). As Mayor and on City Council Roxanne has continued her advocacy of womens rights.
