This service bulletin provides information related to a change in the procedure for retrieving radio security codes from the Dealer Communications System (DCS) for Sephia and Sportage vehicles. Some Kia vehicles feature an anti-theft radio system that prevents the radio from being used in the event it is stolen. When the audio system is not in use, a red ANTI-THEFT light flashes to indicate that the anti-theft feature is enabled. If the battery is disconnected or loses power for any reason, or the audio system is removed for service, the audio system will not operate until the correct radio security code is input into the radio. Previously, a number of dealership personnel have experienced some difficulty in attempting to retrieve radio security codes via the DCS system. To correct this situation, Kia has developed a new more user-friendly method of retrieving radio security codes through the DCS. Notice: The retrieval procedures contained in this bulletin can only be used to retrieve radio security codes for 1996 and later vehicles. Radio security codes for 1995 and prior vehicles can be obtained by calling the Kia Technical Assistance Center. To avoid delay, please provide the representative with the radio chassis number or include it when leaving a message. By doing this the technical assistance center representative will have your radio security code when he calls back.
