ASSIGNMENTS BPMN6043 LEADERSHIP IN ORGANIZATIONS The whole exercise of assignments in this course is to help you understand better the

concept and dynamics of leadership in organizations. Altogether there are two group assignments you need to submit.

GROUP ASSIGNMENT 1: CULT LEADERSHIP (20%) You will be asked to watch a documentary on cult leadership. This documentary is about 1 hour long. 1. After watching the documentary, you are expected to discuss the following: a. Identify and discuss the characteristics of a cult leader 10 marks b. Explain where does a cult leader obtain his/her sources of power 10 marks c. Analyze whether cult leadership is relevant and has a place in contemporary business organizations (why or why not) 30 marks. 2. Length: 15 pages (double spaced, Times New Roman 12, excluding references). 3. Language: English only. 4. Writing style: APA format (please visit the website for further information on how to use this format: www.apa.org) 5. Grammatical mistakes and typo errors will not be tolerated. 6. You are expected to cite academic references in the text to show the academic flavor of the paper. Mere opinions are not advised. 7. Plagiarism is a serious academic offence. Please cite the references accordingly and plagiarized work will not be tolerated. 8. You are to submit the assignment in a soft-copy version (in a pdf format) to the email address: faridah@uum.edu.my, and a hard-copy version to the office. 9. ASSIGNMENT 2: GROUP ASSIGNMENT AND PRESENTATION (30%) Section A: Writing Up (15%) Leadership is not a static concept; it evolves through time along with changes in the business environment. As a result, leadership is not simply about a leader directing subordinates. The following is a list of contemporary concepts of leadership. You are to write a paper on one of them by discussing and analyzing the concept well. That is, you need to explain the characteristics of each leadership style, and when (i.e. in what situations) it is most effectively used or should not be used at all. a. b. c. d. e. To help you with your discussion, you are to write about a leader who fits the description. You are to provide a critique of his/her leadership style and to show instances when such leadership was exercised and the consequences of his/her action. Requirement: 1.
