Personnel: Several officers have taken the opportunity to be off of work enjoying the summer. Unfortunately, with the vacant staff positions, there have been some replacement costs to maintain minimum staffing numbers. Work continues with annual department evaluations. Detectives: UPDATE: On July 13, 2013, officers from the Cloquet Police Department and the Saint Louis County Sheriffs Office located and recovered the 30-foot Keystone Sprinter travel trailer that had been reported stolen on July 5, 2013 in the City of Cloquet. Working on a tip from the public, officers located the trailer in rural south Saint Louis County. The trailer was recovered, transported and later processed at the Cloquet Police Department as part of the continuing investigation. One suspect has been arrested and is currently in the Carlton County Jail on related charges. Detectives also recovered several other items thought to be stolen in other previously reported thefts, including a riding lawn mower that was stolen from a local business. The Cloquet Police Department would like to thank the public and the Saint Louis County Sheriffs Office for their help in solving this case.

Patrol: On Monday, officers and members of the Fire District responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 33 and the Armory Road intersection. One person was treated for injuries.

Miscellaneous: Work continues with the 2014 budget. On Tuesday, staff spent part of the work session discussing the preliminary police budget with the council. Staff continues to work on providing the requested information for the comprehensive law enforcement study. We are now in the process of contacting and facilitating the recommended interviews. This week we had several outside venders performing work in the building. Superior Computer Products was performing maintenance to our computer system, the new BDA (Bio Directional Amplifier) has been installed in the building by Duluth Superior Communications which has helped with portable radio coverage to the lower level of the PD and into the training room. Paw Bell moved a fax line which was needed to reconfigure the front office area.
