SWBAT develop knowledge about shape of Earth and why Stars only shine during night but not during day. ASSESSMENT How will you know whether your students have made progress toward the objective How and when will you assess mastery? Graphic Organizer KEY POINTS. What three to five key points will you emphasize? What (Vocabulary, Notation, Concept): Geography:-The Geography is a subject which enables us to understand the Earth we are living.

VISION-SETTING

The word geography is of Greek origin and can be divided into two parts, geo, meaning the Earth, and graphy, which refers to writing. So geography can be loosely translated to writing about the Earth.. Geography is mother of all Sciences. Earth:- The place where we are living Atmosphere:- our surroundings Spherical:- three dimensional shape 2 Dimensional & 3 Dimensional
How (Steps): Through understanding of Shades formed by Shapes like CD and Ball. With the help of torch. Why: Geography as a school subject enables you to explore and understand the relationship between the Earth and its peoples through the study of space, place and environment .

Torch Papers Scissors Ball CD

OPENING (_5_ min.) How will you communicate what is about to happen? How will you communicate how it will happen? How will you communicate its importance? How will you communicate connections to previous lessons? How will you engage students and capture their interest?

My interest in geography began when I was a little boy, reading whatever I could of my familys collection of National
Geographic magazines. I still remember actual pictures and stories of far-away places, of distant lands and settlements and modern civilization, of colorful foods that had unimaginable flavors, of people wearing robes and silks, and so many eyes and smiles. I learned that geography was much more than just looking at a globe and naming names on a map. It is about the land, the people on that land, the delicate balance of nature, and our very interdependence upon it, despite the miracles of technology and grocery stores. Its about the effects of nature on places that we may never visit, the stories of human survival and rebuilding, and of renewal. It is our nature to wonder about places, to try to understand how we fit in to this great puzzle that we call Earth. When we begin with asking a question about the planet that we live on, we open up a little part of ourselves to that place. Somehow, it becomes less foreign to us. In my travels around the India, I am always amazed at the number of people who know so much about our country. If you know the people, places, and history of the world, you are more likely to promote peace with other lands. You see the differences as well as the plethora of similarities. Quite possibly, you find things about each place that are admirable. Or you see how your country or region compares to some other place and begin to work to solve common problems and inequities.

World change begins with our geographic interest. I hope that this lesson stimulates your interest and knowledge, perhaps even makes you delve deeper into a particular place, or set foot upon another land and grasp the hands of its people. OkNow we will start our lessonwriting the objective on the board
INTRODUCTION OF NEW MATERIAL and ACTIVITY (_20_ min.) What key points will you emphasize and reiterate? How will you ensure that students actively take-in information? How will you vary your approach to make information accessible to all students? Which potential misunderstandings will you anticipate? Why will students be engaged/interested? ESR:- What is Geography? ESR- Why we are studying Geography? ESR:- Why it is called Mother of Science? ESR:- Who is father of Geography? Ok class, thank you so much for your all amazing questions and inspiring too. I love the way you all are asking questions. Very quickly we will discuss these questions:So the first question is what is Geography? Does anyone knows? Please raise your hands if you know the answer. ESR:- Geography is study of surrounding. Ok class, you all too good, and approximately you are correct. Before we start Geography we will try to know some history of Geography. So that we can get answers of all the questions. The Geography is a subject which enables us to understand the Earth we are living. The word geography is of Greek

origin and can be divided into two parts, geo, meaning the Earth, and graphy, which refers to writing. So geography can be loosely translated to writing about the Earth. Anything that can be mapped is Geography. Geography is mother of all Sciences. Greek Scholar Eratosthenes is credited with the first use of word geography in 3rd century B.C. He is also known as father of Geography for his geographical writing and accomplishments, including the measurements of circumference of the earth.

Ok students, Have you all get the answers of above questions. What is Earth? ESR:- Earth is a Planet where we are living. Very Good. Now tell me about shape of Earth. ESR:- Circular ESR:- Spherical Very goodShape of Earth is Spherical. But how do know that shape of Earth is Spherical. ESR:- Globe Before we conclude about shape of earth, I am going to show you some shades again. (Shades of CD and Ball through Torch light) (Ask the students about shape of shades on the wall) Through this we can conclude that Earth is Spherical in Shape which is 3 dimensional Geometry. Ok class!!! So our first objective has been finished. How wonderful it is to watch the sky after sunset! One would first notice one or two bright dots shining in the sky. Soon you would see the number increasing. You cannot count them anymore. The whole sky is filled with tiny shining objects some are bright, others dim. It seems as if the sky is studded with diamonds. They all appear to be twinkling. But if you look at them carefully you will notice that some of them do not twinkle as others do. And the bad time comes when our Suraj Chachu (Sun) start shining. All others get lost. Now A million dollar question for you is why stars only shines in a Night but not during the day? ESR:- I dont know.. Dont worry class. I will show you something then after my activity I hope you will get the answer of this question. Show them the activity through which they can demonstrate that why stars only shine in night.

Activity (_3_ min.)

1. 2. 3.

Place the torch in the center of the paper with its glass front touching the paper. Now draw a circle around the torch. Perforate the paper with the needle within the circled area.

Now place the perforated circle part of the paper on the glass front and wrap the paper around the torch with a rubber band. 5. Take care that the switch of the torch is not covered. 6. In a dark room, stand at some distance facing a plain wall. Switch off all other lights. Now flash the torch light on the wall. You will see numerous dots of light on the wall, like stars shine in the night. 7. Switch on all the lights in the room. All dots of light will be almost invisible. 8. You may now compare the situation with what happens to the bright objects of the night sky after the sun rises in the morning So after this activity, now you all are able to explain our question.

4.

CLOSING (_5_ min.) How will students summarize what they learned? How will students be asked to state the significance of what they learned? How will you provide all students with opportunities to demonstrate mastery of the objective? Why will students be engaged/interested? Who is going to summarize our todays learning in Geography? ESR: - Summarizing Very Good Now in the Next class we will continue our lesson from the Textbookbut before you leave this class I want you all to try something at your home:Learn the name of all Planets in Solar System and make a Solar System Chart in your notebook.

An easy way to memories the name of the planets in order of their distance from the sun is:
