Personality Profiling One of the most important factors in determining the career that is right for you is the understanding of your personality, also referred to as characteristics or attitudes. Research has shown that people most satisfied with their jobs are those individuals who are working in fields that closely match their personality, interests, skills, values and goals. A good career planning process always begins with self-assessment, which can reveal your characteristics, interests, values and skills. It will also define your strengths and your weakness. Looking for a match between these and the work you are considering is the most important step you can take before you write a resume or begin the search for a job. In fact, when the time comes to write your resume and prepare for a job interview, you will find the task easier if you have completed the self-assessment process first! OCS is offering four different personality profiling inventories to aid your self-assessment process. These inventories, administered by the career counsellors, will help you to define your personality style or interests related to work and help you to think about how your values or interests might match some specific career fields. If you are not too certain which inventory to choose, you can refer to following table that shows you a comparison of the four different personality profiling instruments. DISC DISC provides an insight into your style and likely trends of your behaviour. It does this by evaluating four key factors of an individuals behaviour: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. The real power of DISC comes from its ability to interpret the relations between these factors. For example where a highly Dominant person has an equally high level of Influence, they will behave quite differently to an equally Dominant individual without that Influence. Using this information, DISC can be used to describe your general approach, including yuor motivations and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and some of the basic assumptions you make about other people. It can also predict how you will react to a specific set of circumstances. MOTIVATIONAL APPRAISAL OF PERSONAL POTENTIAL (MAPPTM) MAPP is an extremely flexible instrument for recruitment, career counseling, job profiling and leadership development. It provides insights into your natural motivations, preferences and talents for work. When your job matches your true motivations, work seems easier and is more fulfilling. Based on your preferences in the assessment, MAPP appraisals spell out the job content and environment that you will find personal job satisfaction. The Worker Trait Code lists nine factors as essential criteria for any kind of job success. They are Interest in Job Content, Temperament for The Job, Aptitude, People, Things, Data, Reasoning, Mathematics, and Language. It also measures a persons Personal Analysis and Learning Styles to show how a person relates, learns and communicates. Combined together, they provide a powerful MAPP reading about a persons relationships, vocational match and ability to be trained. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a self-report personality inventory designed to measure and describe your preference in your approach to the environment, information gathering and organization, decision making and life orientation. MBTI results indicate your likely preferences on four dimensions:

Extraversion (E) OR Introversion (I) Sensing (S) OR Intuition (N) Thinking (T) OR Feeling (F) Judging (J) OR Perceiving (P)

The MBTI is the most widely used personality instrument in the world and is used in teambuilding, leadership training, change management, career development and counseling.
