Using the attached TL Charts in pages 6 and 7, answer the following:(i) (ii) (iii) Based on ISO140, plot the Rw and chart and describe the result. Based on ASTM E336, plot the NIC chart. Compare (a) and (b) and describe the observed difference. (15 marks)

Question 2 (a) A large fan is operating at 1500rpm. (i) (ii) (iii) Calculate the forcing of the motor. If the fan has 5 blades, what is the blade pass frequency? (3 marks) (3 marks)

Explain using a graph with y-axis in frequency and x-axis in dB, what frequency peaks you would see. (9 marks)

(b)

If you need to isolate the fan with 4 spring isolators, to achieve an efficiency of isolation of 95%, you have to select a spring isolator frequency of a factor 12 times lower than the motor frequency. What is the spring static deflection you need to select? (i) (ii) Show the selection calculations. (5 marks)

Show schematic how you would install the isolators to the base frame of the fan. (5 marks)

Question 3 A transmission suite consisting of two highly reverberant rooms is used to test the sound transmission loss of a partition as shown in Fig. 1.

Room 1

partition

Room 2

Source

Receiver

Fig. 1 The inner dimensions of both rooms are 5m x 5m x 5m and the average absorption coefficient of the inner surfaces of the rooms is 0.1 over the operating frequency range. The sound power level of the sound source located at the centre of room 1 from 125 Hz to 4000 Hz are as follows. Octave band (Hz) 125 250 500 1000 2000 4000 Sound power level (dB) 85 90 90 90 95 90

The transmission coefficients of the partition placed between the two rooms are tabulated below. Octave band (Hz) 125 250 500 1000 2000 4000 Transmission Coefficient () 0.03 0.01 0.01 0.007 0.005 0.005

What is the overall sound pressure level at the centre of room 2?
